Sudanese president to visit Russia to sign cooperation agreements
KHARTOUM, Oct 11, 2004 (Al-Ray al-Amm) — Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir will be visiting Russia in the near future to sign draft agreements on irrigation, dams, electricity and mining exploration.
Following his visits to both Russia and Belarus, Minister of Interior Maj-Gen Eng Abdalrahim Mohamed Hussein said yesterday that his visit to Russia was to prepare the presisdent’s forthcoming visit.
In statements to the press, Hussein said that governmental committees would be preparing in a short time the necessary information about the projects to be signed by the president in Moscow.
The minister pointed out that during his visit to Belarus he signed a memorandum of understanding on police training and the import of technical material.
The minister said he had explained in details in Moscow and Minsk the latest developments of the situation in Darfur; that he found an understanding of the government position from the leadership of the two countries, and that they had stressed to him that the best solution to the Darfur problem was through the African Union.
The interior minister accused the international community of applying “double standard” policy when it comes to its dealing with Sudan’s issues.
