Sudan’s FM rejects any threats of sanctions

Mustafa_ismail.jpgKHARTOUM, Oct 13, 2004 (SUNA) — The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mustafa Osman Ismail, has declared Sudan rejection to any threats to impose sanctions against it, describing threats of sanctions as reflecting a colonialist mentality.

The Minister said in a press statement at the Guest House Wednesday that threats shall be imposed on the countries that refuse to comply with the resolutions of the Security Council.

Ismail explained that what is going on in Palestine and Iraq is sufficient to prove the double standard policy that was adopted by several institutions, including the European Union.

The minister said that that during its talks with the Sudanese officials, the visiting delegation of the EU Troika has never touched on threats to impose any economic or other sanctions on Sudan.

Chairman of the EU delegation denied in a press conference existence of any agenda or plan to impose sanctions against Sudan.

Ismail went to say that the EU delegation explained that its stance toward Sudan is different from its stance towards Palestine and Iraq and that balance of stances is determined by the public opinion.

Meanwhile, Ismail said that the government started implementation of its agreement with the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, regarding normalization of situation in Darfur.
