Sudanese ruling National Congress and Umma Party for Reform reach agreement

Nejib_al-Khari_Abdel_Wahab-3.jpgKHARTOUM, Oct. 14, 2004 (SUNA) — The State Minister for Foreign Affairs and the leading member of the Umma Party for Reform and Modernization, Nagib Al-Khair Abdul-Wahab [photo], announced that his party and the National Congress have achieved an agreement which contains impacts of the recent decision of the relieving of the Chairman of Umma Party’s Federal Bureau, Mubarak Al-Fadi.

In a press statement, Abdul-Wahab said that the agreement was signed Thursday by Al-Zahawi Ibrahim Malik from the Umma Party for Reform and Modernization and the Secretary of the Political Secretariat at the National Congress, Dr. Magoub Al-Khalifa, after three days of successive meetings between the two parties.

He said that the agreement includes seven items, explaining that the agreement deals with establishment of a mechanism to observe the partnership between the two parties. Abdul-Wahab said that the agreement also provides guarantee for the right of the Umma Party for Reform and Modernization to select its representatives at the executive organ and relieving and replacing them.

He described the agreement as an acceptable formula for both the Umma Party for Reform and Modernization and the National Congress. Abdul-Wahab said that the spirit of frankness and keenness has prevailed at the meetings between the two parties toward surpassing the differences and guaranteeing the public interest.

He said that the current internal and external circumstances facing the country necessitate sticking to wisdom in handling all affairs. He said the decision of relieving Al-Fadil was a big shock to the party and unexpected one.

He pointed out that they decided the party members, who are assuming constitutional positions, shall continue their work in the context of a new partnership with the National Congress.
