Senior Iran MP rejects US interfernce in Sudan’s domestic affairs
TEHRAN, Oct 17, 2004 (IRNA) — Deputy Head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Mahmoud Mohammadi in a meeting with Sudanese Ambassador to Tehran Hamed Ali Mohammad al-Thani here Sunday praised the measures taken by Sudanese officials in the face of internal strife.
According to a report released by the Public Relations Department of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Mohammadi rejected and condemned any interference in Sudan’s domestic affairs by the US and the West.
Underlining the role played by the parliaments of both countries to institutionalize the democratic trend and the need to exchange parliamentary experiences, he called for further cooperation and coordination among them.
Mohammadi also called for such collaboration within the framework
of the global and Islamic inter-parliamentary unions simultaneous to
expansion of political ties.
He also announced the readiness of the seventh Majlis to broaden
Iran-Sudan relations.
Turning to the eighth meeting of Iran-Sudan Economic Commission,
he noted that the private sectors of the two states can play a vital
role in strengthening economic bonds.
He pointed to the visit of President Mohammad Khatami to Sudan as
a turning point in bilateral ties, and hoped that further exchange of
visits by officials of the two states will help strengthen relations.
For his part, the Sudanese diplomat referred to mutual relations
as strategic and said that given favorable grounds for collaboration
between the two countries, Sudanese officials give special priority to
Iranian companies in industrial and trade projects.
He hoped that once the decisions taken at the eighth meeting of
the joint economic commission are implemented, a major progress will
take place in bilateral economic ties.
The diplomat also called on Majlis to support the relations
between the two countries.
