Egypt assists displaced people in South Sudan

March 13, 2021 (JUBA) – The Egyptian government has sent humanitarian assistance to the displaced people in South Sudan.

The shipment of relief aid provided by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) was handed over by the Egyptian ambassador to South Sudan, Mohamed Kaddah.

The Egyptian Foreign Affairs ministry, in a statement, said the items, which included half a tonne of medicines, was “intended to alleviate human suffering in centres of displaced people in South Sudan”.

Ambassador Kaddah emphasized Egypt’s solidarity with South Sudan in light of the humanitarian crisis prevailing in the young nation.

While receiving the items in the capital, Juba, South Sudan’s Vice President, Rebecca Garang, expressed thanks and appreciation to Egypt for the prompt response to her country’s request for assistance, adding that Egypt has always been among the first countries to respond to their needs.

In September last year, Egypt sent 197 tonnes of humanitarian aid to those affected by excessive flooding in Sudan and South Sudan.
