South Sudan: 14 people killed, 7 others injured in deadly attack

March 29, 2021 (TORIT) – At least14 people were killed and seven others injured in an attack that occurred in Budi County of South Sudan’s Eastern Equatoria State on Sunday, an official said.

The state press secretary, Aliandro Lotok was quoted saying unknown gunmen attacked Camp 15 area at around 1:00am [local time] while people were sleeping, killing 12 women and two children.

“The state government has condemned the incident in the strongest term possible. We would like to assure our citizens that the state authorities will investigate the attack,” he told Xinhua Monday.

Lotok said the motive behind the deadly attack remains unknown, but security forces are hunting for the attackers.

He urged the local communities in the area to remain calm as state authorities strive to restore normality following Sunday’s attack.

According to previous reports, the routine of intercommunal clashes in many parts of South Sudan prevails due to lack of an efficient justice system in the country.
