South Sudan’s Kiir, Ramaphosa discuss peace implementation

April 17, 2021 (PRETORIA) – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir on Saturday held a meeting with his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa and discussed a wide range of issues pertaining to the ongoing implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

The two presidents, the South Sudanese presidency said in a statement, also discussed ways of strengthening and deepening the bilateral relations between South Africa and the East African nation.

Kiir is on a three-visit to South Africa on the invitation of his counterpart.

The South Sudan leader assured his counterpart of his government’s commitment to the full implementation of the September 2018 peace agreement.

Meanwhile South Sudan’s Presidential Affairs minister, Barnaba Marial Benjamin said Kiir invited South African businesses to come and invest in the world’s newest nation.

He remarked, “With peace holding, President Salva Kiir invites South Africans businesses to conduct meaningful investment in South Sudan, a step that will prove mutually beneficial to the two countries.

The minister further said South Sudan welcomes the appointment of Nicholas Haysom, a South African national who was recently appointed as the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General in South Sudan. He replaces David Shearer from New Zealand.
