Armed men kill three herders at South Sudan-Kenya border

April 27, 2021 (NAIROBI) — Three Kenyan herders were on Tuesday killed and several others injured when armed raiders attacked a grazing field at the border between South Sudan and neighbouring Kenya, an area official said.

map-2.jpgThe Rift Valley regional coordinator, George Natembeya was quoted saying a group of Toposa tribesmen from South Sudan was behind the attack on the herders at the grazing field in northern Kenyan county of Turkana.

“The group was big and they overpowered Turkana herders, three herders were shot dead and several others injured,” he told Xinhua.

He said the raiders made off with over 170 herds of cattle after a fierce gun battle.

According to the local area official, security gents have been dispatched to the Kenya-South Sudan border to protect local herders.

A source at the border was quoted saying the raiders from South Sudan were on a revenge mission after a recent attack by Turkana cattle rustlers.

Tension remained high at the Kenya-South Sudan border as Turkana herders relocated to safer areas.
