Burhan calls for the unity of Sudan transition forces
May 2, 2021 (KHARTOUM) – The head of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, called to stop quarrels between the forces of the revolution and reiterated the commitment of the military component of the transitional government to the partnership with the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) and the parties to peace.
Addressing a Ramadan breakfast organized by the FFC’s Unionist Alliance attended by the components of the transitional government, al-Burhan confirmed that the military component is committed to the partnership with the FFC and is determined to accomplish the tasks of the transitional period.
“We must achieve a real shift in Sudan. We know that it may cost us our lives but it has to be done. We want to restore Sudan as a leading country in the region,” he added.
The President of the Sovereignty Council stressed the need for the unity of the revolution’s forces, including the army, the FFC, and the Sudanese Revolutionary Front, and to complete the structures of the transitional authority starting with the transitional parliament.
“The rivalry between the forces of the revolution must stop because the transitional period cannot tolerate it. The forces of the revolution, the bad and the good must unite because their fragmentation affects Sudan and the revolution,” he stressed.
The divisions among the FFC have delayed the establishment of the transitional legislative council. Also, they diverge on the appointment of the states’ governors.
The peace signatory groups have also many requests with regard to the appointment of their members in the transitional government institutions.
Al-Burhan further dismissed allegations about alliances the military formed with some regional forces.
The transitional government is not a hostage to any alliance, and there is no party in the world that dictates what it should do. (The government) only does what its constitutional duties dictate, he added.
In the same vein, Hadi Idris a member of the Sovereignty Council and head of the Sudanese Revolutionary Front warned that the differences between the parties of the government would lead to its failure to implement the goals of the transition in Sudan.
He advised that unity should start from the top because, according to him, if the rulers did not unite, the Sudanese would not be united.
