Kibaki was speaking in Nairobi during a meeting with the German investors who have expressed interest in constructing the proposed railway line to link the port of Mombasa and southern Sudan.

Kibaki urged the investors in conjunction with the relevant
ministries to carry out proper feasibility studies to determine the viability of the project.

The German investors led, by Klaus Thormahlen, presented a draft
memorandum of understanding detailing their commitment to the
project.

Kenya is among the countries at the forefront of the proposed
construction of the railway line that would connect Kenya, Uganda
and the vast southern Sudan.

The plan also entails upgrading and modernising parts of the
existing Kenya-Uganda line which was constructed at the beginning
of the last century.
