UN may send Security Council to Kenya
UNITED NATIONS, Oct 21, 2004 (UPI) — The United Nations Security Council is considering a two-day session next month in Nairobi, Kenya, primarily to discuss the crisis in Darfur, Sudan.
Ambassador Emyr Jones Parry of Britain, this months’ president of the panel of 15, said he expects the decision to be formalized soon.
“Clearly the Council will meet in Nairobi on Nov. 18-19,” he said. “It would be primarily to talk about the situation in the whole of Sudan, focusing perhaps especially on the political processes.”
Council members would also take advantage of their presence there to discuss with the African Union other issues, such as the U.N. relationship with the AU and Kenya’s peace-building efforts in the region, Jones Parry said.
