Canada contributes $20 million to AU forces in Sudan’s Darfur

OTTAWA, Nov 7, 2004 (SUNA) — Canadian government announced that it will contribute 20 million dollars to African Union (AU) mission in Darfur.

In this regard, Anne Marie Bourcier, the Director of the African Department at the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and chairperson of the Canadian side in the second session of the joint political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affaires of Sudan and Canada, expressed hope that Sudan achieves peace in the near future, affirming that her country is working for that end in Sudan.

The Canadian official further expressed her satisfaction over the success of the joint Sudanese-Canadian meeting.

Meanwhile, the Director of the America Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mohammed Al-Amin Al-Karib, expressed Sudan’s confidence that Canada, with its political and economic weight, is able to play more positive role in the realization of peace in Sudan as well as in promotion of the Sudanese-Canadian relations, especially in the domains of development.

The 2nd session of the joint Sudanese-Canadian committee on political consultations was held recently in Ottawa, Canada and the two sides signed the minutes of the meetings.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Al-Karib met in Ottawa with the Canadian Peace Envoy to Sudan, Senator Mobina Jaffar, exchanging views on situation in Sudan, especially in Darfur States, and how to make her mission in Sudan successful.

The meeting was attended by Sudanese and Canadian members of the joint committee on political consultations.
