Sudanese opposition Beja confirms its withdrawal from Cairo talks
KHARTOUM, Nov 10, 2004 (Al-Ayyam) — The opposition Beja Congress has denied making any contacts with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on its return to negotiations between the government and the NDA to be held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, after the Id-al-Fitr celebrations.
It stressed that the committee, which was formed by NDA to discuss its return to the negotiations table, has not met its leaders upto now.
It demanded the government to give positive signals to eastern Sudan if it wants to sit at the same forum and negotiate with the people of the region. The congress said that it wants a peaceful solution and will not compromise it.
The Beja Congress said its withdrawal from the Cairo negotiations does not mean breaking ranks with the NDA, but said all options are open.
