Sudan, UN discuss peace process in Darfur
KHARTOUM, Nov 13, 2004 (SUNA) — The joint mechanism between the government and UN discussed in its meeting held Friday night at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs developments in Darfur states.
A report was presented during the meeting on the visit paid by Foreign Minister Mustafa Osman Ismail and Special Representative of UN Secretary General in Sudan Jan Pronk to South Darfur State during the past two pays.
Ismail said in a statement to SUNA that the meeting reviewed arrangements being made for the coming meeting of the UN Security Council in Nairobi, pointing out that the meeting commended the agreement signed recently in Abuja between the government and arms holders in Darfur in the security and humanitarian axes.
He said the representative of the African Union (AU) at the meeting presented a report on the number of the African forces that have reached Darfur till now, their mission and deployment and the efforts being exerted by the AU in this regard.
