“Russia will continue to actively promote, including at the UN Security Council, the long-term and irreversible normalization of the situation in Sudan, including at Darfur, through the UN’s close cooperation with the government of Sudan and with African regional and subregional structures on the basis of the political accords and UN Security Council resolutions achieved,” the statement says.
The UN Security Council passed resolution 1574 on Sudan at an itinerant session in Nairobi.
“As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, Russia intends to make a responsible contribution to implementation of the outcome of the Council’s itinerant session in Nairobi in the interests of securing peace and stability in Africa,” RIA-Novosti reported.
“This important event was designed above all else to support the peace process in Sudan, which is now at a crucial stage, and also the normalization process in Somalia.”
