Al Merghani meets SPLM delegation as Garang receives NDA Envoy

Al_Merghani.jpgASMARA Nov 20, 2004 (Sudan Tribune) — The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Chairman and Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) leader Mohamed Osman Al Merghani (photo) ascertained “unwavering commitment to support the ongoing efforts to make peace in Sudan.” The opposition NDA Chairman further affirmed “The National Democratic Alliance will steadily negotiate with the government irrespective of all obstacles or restraints.”

Meeting with the leadership delegates of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement: Mansur Khalid, Pagan Amum, Abdel-Aziz al-Hilo and Bibor Asod. The NDA Chairman re-affirmed “the aim is the full achievement of a comprehensive political settlement and real democratic transition.”

Expressing his hope “the Nairobi, Cairo, and Abuja would come together towards a comprehensive settlement of the Sudan’s Crisis,” the NDA Chairman welcomed the results of the Security Council’s meetings in Nairobi and the GOS-SPLM Memorandum of Understanding. “The memorandum is a significant step to move on the peace process in the country to end the suffering of people.”

Al Merghani called on the people of Sudan and all political and social organizations of the country to cooperate in a positive way to bring about national stability in the next stage. “In this shortly upcoming time, there is a dire need to line up all efforts to insure the permanent peace and regular democracy.”

John-Garang.jpgIn Nairobi, John Garang de Mabior (photo) and the SPLM Deputy Chairman Chief Peace Negotiator Niyal Deng Niyal met with the NDA Chairman Envoy to the Security Council Meetings Mr. Adil Sid Ahmed Abdel-Hadi. Garang addressed the meeting in detail about the SPLM vision and evaluation of the results of the Council meetings.

Garang held that “Peace is soon coming, and all parties must be ready for the new stage.” The SPLM Leader praised the pioneering role that Mohamed Osman Al Merghani has been playing to make peace in Sudan since the November 16th, 1988’s Sudanese Peace Agreement.
