Eritrean minister, Annan discuss border row with Ethiopia in Asmara

ASMARA, Nov 22, 2004 (shabait.com) — The Minister of Labor and Human Welfare, Ms. Askalu Menkerios received the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan today, where both sides held talks on the Eritrean-Ethiopian peace process. The Secretary General made a short stop in Eritrea before traveling to Sharm Al-Sheik, Egypt.

After underlining that the UN Security Council’s top priority remains to be to ensure respect for the rule of law, the Minister said that the stalemate in the peace process is a result of the UN Security Council’s failure to see to the implementation of the Algiers Peace Agreement and the EEBC ruling.

Minister Askalu said that all hopes and expectations held by the Eritrean people in seeing the UN peace keeping mission expedite the implementation of the border demarcation process is fading out due to the latter’s inaction.

She also underlined that the EEBC’s final and binding ruling should be implemented at the latest.
