ABU DHABI, 28 Nov, 2004 (WAM) — A high-level delegation from Sudan recently visited Dubai eGovernment to initiate means of mutual cooperation in the field of eGovernance and to draw knowledge from Dubai’s successful experience in the integration and delivery of eServices.

The delegation consisted of Altayeb Mustafa, former Information and Telecommunications Minister in Sudan and Manager of Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, Sudan, and Mamoun Ahmed Mekki, Board Member and Head of the Khartoum Representative Office, Arab Centre for Communications and Internal Relations, according to a press release.

The delegation was accompanied by Ahmed Abdulkarim Julfar, General Manager, eCompany, a subsidiary of Etisalat, and Mohammed Sultan Al Kadi, General Manager of Etisalat, Ras Al Khaimah, and Head of the Etisalat project in Sudan.

After visiting Dubai eGovernment offices, Altayeb Mustafa praised Dubai eGovernment as a successful and pioneering initiative that stands as a unique model for all Arab countries intending to introduce e-services into their framework. He also expressed his certainty that a future MOU between Dubai eGovernment and the National Centre for Information, which is part of the Sudanese Cabinet, would enable Sudan to draw benefits from Dubai eGovernment.

Mahmood Al Bastaki, Acting Director of eServices, Dubai eGovernment, briefed the officials on the strategic policies of Dubai eGovernment and the measures employed to ensure their implementation.

“It is the wish of General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Defence Minister, to share Dubai’s eWisdom with all Arabs. Therefore, we are delighted to receive the Sudanese delegation, and we trust that the visit will be mutually beneficial,” said Al Bastaki.

“According to the United Nations, the UAE is the leading country for e-government services in the Arab World, and is ahead of such countries as Japan and Ireland in this field. Over 1,500 services including ePay, mDubai and AskDubai are available via electronic channels through the portal www.dubai.ae,” added Al Bastaki
