Sudanese VP, opposition NDA leader discuss Cairo talks
CAIRO, Nov 29, 2004 (MENA) — A Cairo-based Sudanese opposition leader had contacts Monday with Sudanese officials as part of preparations for the third round of a dialogue between the Sudanese government and the Sudanese National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to settle pending issues.
Abdalrahman Saeed, deputy leader of the NDA told MENA that the contacts were under way with the host country, Egypt, which sponsors the dialogue that kicked off in May 2003.
The contacts were made between NDA leader Mohamed Osman al-Mirghani on one hand and Sudanese First Vice-President Ali Osman Taha and ruling National Congress Party Secretary-General Ibrahim Omar.
Saeed expected the new round to be held during the first half of December at the most.
He noted that the NDA was ready for this round, adding contacts has not been complete yet. He pointed out that preparations were going on to resume negotiations and end outstanding problems.
