Sudanese govt, exiled opposition set for new round of talks
KHARTOUM, Sudan, Dec 1, 2004 (PANA) — Inside sources say preparations are afoot for a fresh round of talks between the government of Sudan
and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) of exiled opposition parties based in Asmara, Eritrea, according to media reports here.
Press reports Wednesday quoted Cairo-based NDA deputy leader
Abdel-Rahman Saeed as saying the talks would likely hold “early December.”
He said consultations were afoot between NDA leader Mohamed
Osman al-Merghani and Sudanese First Vice President Ali Osman
Mohammed Taha as well as the secretary general of the ruling
National Congress Party, Ibrahim Ahmed Omar for restarting the
talks.
The Sudanese government and the NDA held preliminary talks last August in Cairo, where they agreed to direct talks with a set
agenda.
Dialogue proper between the two sides started last 21 October,
pursued in four committees on constitutional, legal, economic and
political issues.
