Sudanese president says ready to solve Darfur conflict
KHARTOUM, Dec 26, 2004 (Xinhua) — Sudanese President Omar el-Bashir confirmed here on Sunday his government is ready to reach a comprehensive political solution to Darfur crisis in the coming round of talks next January, reported the Sudanese News Agency.
The president make this remarks during his meeting with government delegate for Abuja talks headed by Majzoub el-Khalifa, who informed him the development since the last Abuja peace talks, said the report.
El-Bashir expressed his trust on the African Union (AU) for handling the Darfur conflict and solving the disputes in Africa, stressing his appreciation for the efforts the AU exerted to realize stability in Darfur.
He reaffirmed Sudan’s commitment to the AU and the United Nation’s resolutions as well as its respect to all agreements it signed.
The Sudanese president announced the beginning of the coming year would witness the realization of a comprehensive peace in Sudan, noting the progress in the peace talks between his government and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Kenya and in the other forums.
He added his new government budget would locate great supply for all Sudan states including Darfur, saying the budget would focus on peace programs, especially the repatriation of displaced and refugees as well as rehabilitation and providing national services.
