Moussa, in a statement following the meeting, said the talks dealt with conditions in Sudan, namely the peace negotiations between the government and the People’s Liberation Movement of John Garang as well as positive developments in Darfur.

The league chief said the Arab organization, once the two Sudanese parties reach a final settlement, would hold meetings to pave way for forming a new Sudanese leadership and launch a process of development and construction.

He added that the league, since two years ago, has been involved in a reconstruction process in Sudan.

Kenya has been hosting talks in the city of Naivasha, aimed at finding a comprehensive settlement to the 21-year-old war between Khartoum and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement.

The two sides have vowed to the UN to sign the deal by December 31, when a ceasefire is due to expire.

The two sides continue to emroil in differences on how to administer Khartoum during a six-year interim period leading to a referendum on self-determination for the south.
