Committee to be set up to formulate interim constitution for the Sudan
KHARTOUM, Jan 2, 2004 (SUNA) — The Minister of Justice, Ali Mohamed Osman Yassin, announced that agreement was reached to form a joint committee from the government, Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), northern and southern associations and the national parties to amend the Constitution to cope with the interim period, besides formulating a model constitution for all the states.
In a press statement, the minister said that a special committee will also be formed to work out a constitution for the southern states.
The minister pointed out that the peace protocols and agreements will be basis for formulation of the interim constitution, adding that the committee will begin its work after January 9.
He said that the committee for formulation of the Constitution will complete its mission within 45 days.
He added that all the existing laws will be revised in a manner which guarantee the freedoms and human rights.
