Sudanese VP briefs armed forces on peace agreement

KHARTOUM, Jan 03, 2004 (SUNA) — First Vice President, Ali Osman Mohammed Taha, announced that elections will be held in Sudan after 4 years.

Ali_Osman_Taha_3.jpgThis came when the First Vice President was briefing the commanders of the Armed Forces at the General Command of the Armed Forces here Monday, in the presence of the Minister of Defense, Maj. Gen. Bakri Hassan Salih.

He added that the State of Emergency will be lifted following the signing of the final peace agreement except in areas of war and insecurity.

As for the issue of general amnesty, Taha explained that the two sides agreed to settle this issue in the period after the signing of peace, explaining that there are plenty of guarantees for the peace process.

The peace agreement is an opportunity to re-set our priorities according to the new challenges, the First Vice President added.

Taha referred to plots to seize the capabilities of the country, explaining that those plots sought to prolong the war.
