Pakistan’s Awais Laghari seeks Sudan ventures in IT

ISLAMABAD, Jan 10, 2005 (PPI) — Pakistan has offered a strategic relationship in the IT sector to Sudan, combining joint ventures and transfer of expertise and technical know-how.

Minister for Information Technology, Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari made this offer to Sudanese Ambassador to Pakistan, Daffa Alla Elhag Ali Osman in a meeting held here on January 7.

Pakistan was ready to offer training and technical expertise to help implement e-government projects in Sudan through its companies that had already successfully executed such projects including issuance of computerised identity cards to citizens.

The Minister told the Sudanese Envoy that Pakistan’s IT sector had shown a healthy growth during the last two years at the back of skilled and talented local workforce that had helped local IT industry register about 50 per cent growth in the export of IT-enabled services and products to the outside world.

He said government polices in the IT and telecom sectors had already brought about remarkable and radical changes in the sector, providing for a conducive and investment-friendly environment for international businesses.

“Our effort is to play the role of facilitator with minimum government interference which has gone a long way in attracting billions of dollars in investment in the telecom sector,” he said.
