Sudanese VP pledges to hold soon talks with Darfur rebels
KHARTOUM, Jan 14, 2005 (SUNA) — The First Vice – President, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, pointed out that the coming weeks will witness sessions of negotiations, decisions and arrangements to put off the war fire in Darfur and to realize the unity of rank through the ongoing negotiations with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Cairo.
Addressing Thursday at the Republican Palace a celebration held by the Presidency of the Republic on peace day, Taha affirmed the government determination to provide peace all over Sudan.
He renewed the government welcome to the returnees from the war zones to the arena of re-building and political participation in the new Sudan. He said that the coming period is expected to witness arrival of many investors to work in Sudan, a matter which will bolster the development and reconstruction process.
Taha described the peace agreement as a victory for all the Sudanese people. He called on the people and their institutions to maintain the peace agreement and to implement its clauses and programmes.
Meanwhile, the First Vice – President appreciated the performance of the civil service and its institutions toward enhancing the production and preservation of self-dependence and the freedom of the decision-making process. He also lauded the role of the Armed Forces and the other regular forces in aborting the conspiracies of the nation’s enemies.
Taha has praised the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) for its adherence to dialogue and negotiation as means to end the war. He stressed that Sudan can go ahead in the path of progress and prosperity as long as it is enjoying stability, unity and a clear-cut vision for the future.
