Implementation of peace deal going according to fixed timetable: Sudan VP

KHARTOUM, Jan 20, 2005 (SUNA) — First Vice-president of the Republic, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, affirmed that implementation of the Peace Agreement is going according to timetables agreed upon.

In press conference held at the Council of Ministers Wednesday, Taha pointed out that coordination was made between the government and SPLM for exchange of information and unification of stances of the two sides towards the joint task, in respect of setting up the national committee for conducting the draft of the provisional constitution.

He expressed pleasure over political forces’ support to the peace agreement, calling for enforcing the positive position to become a national accord for finding a vivid political situation in the coming period, appreciating the outcome of negotiations held with the National Democratic Alliance in Cairo.

On Darfur file, Taha declared stability of the humanitarian situation in Dafur, referring, in this regard, to concerted efforts being exerted to provided people inside camps with the necessary needs, affirming that the government will make its utmost effort to protect civilians.

‘Coordination in efforts between the government and the African Union (AU) troops will be made in overall Darfur and that the fighting has been narrowed to a level that will positively affect the security situation in the region,’ Taha told reports.

He reiterated the government commitment to ceasefire as is stipulated in the security protocol signed by the two sides.

The First Vice-president praised the role being played by Libya to address Darfur problem, Nigeria and Chad, announcing that he will pay visits, incoming days, to each of Libya , Nigeria and the Republic of Chad to meet the heads of state of these countries as part of efforts to coordinating the various files of Darfur problem.
