Ethiopia: Voter registration under way in Badme

SHIRE INDA SILASE, Jan 22, 2005 (ENA) — Some 90,622 voters have registered so far to vote in the upcoming national elections in North Western zone of the Tigray State, Northwest Tigray Zone, including in Badme, the zonal electoral office said.

Badme is the flashpoint of the war between Ethiopia and Eritrea, which was later awarded to the latter by the independent Eritrea-Ethiopia Boundary Commission.

The registration was conducted at 352 polling stations in areas inhabited by the Kunama nationality, including Badme, Office Coordinator Mulugeta Asrat told ENA on Saturday 22 January.
