Possible meeting between Garang, Turabi in Khartoum- Sudanese opposition
KHARTOUM, Feb 15, 2005 (Alwan) — The secretary of political affairs of the opposition islamist Popular National Congress (PNC), Bashir Adam Rahmah, has said that the visit by the PNC’s delegation to neighbouring Eritrea has resulted in a possible meeting between SPLM’s John Garang and Hasan al-Turabi, the secretary-general of the PNC.
The meeting is expected to take place during John Garang’s first visit to Khartoum before he goes into further discussion with the government on the details of the possible new-look government.
In an interview with Al-wan, Bashir said the peace agreement that was signed in Naivasha, Kenya, must be a comprehensive agreement that would address all sectors.
Bashir further said that his delegation’s visit to Eritrea will contribute to improving the relations between the people of Eritrea and Sudan.
He also said that his party had held talks with various Sudanese opposition parties which include, the Beja Congress, the Free Lions and the various Darfur rebel movements as well as Mubarak al-Fadil, the leader of the opposition Ummah Party-Reform and Renewal wing.
He added that the PNC has signed a memorandum of understanding with the ruling party in Eritrea.
