Sudanese southerners plan dialogue conference soon

KHARTOUM, Feb 22, 2005 (Al-Sahafah) — The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) has announced that it will hold a South-South dialogue by the end of February under the umbrella of a charitable organization under the patronage of former Kenyan President Daniel Arap Moi.

SPLM official Spokesman Yasir Arman says everyone is invited to the all South-South dialogue, adding that discussions will be with all parties in the South without exception.

He went on to say, however, that efforts will be made to create both a southern national consensus and an all-inclusive Sudanese consensus.

He also says the movement welcomes all ideas by all parties.

He affirmed that the movement would welcome dialogue with anyone, including its opponents, such as the former Vice-President Joseph Laqu and the former Minister of Culture Buna Malwal.

He went on to say: Yes, we are happy to dialogue with either of them. However, dialogue in itself is more important than any individual. It is a serious dialogue between all the dynamic forces of the civil society, and not merely a dialogue about political power.
