European parliamentary delegation tours refugee camps in Darfur

KHARTOUM, Feb 22, 2005 (Al-Khartoum) — The European parliamentary delegation has visited the Southern Darfur State and held talks with the Governor of the State, Al-Haj Atta al-Mannan, who briefed it on the security and social situation in the region.

The governor said that there was a positive development on the humanitarian front as well as relative calm on the security front.

The governor urged the delegation to assist Sudan in resolving the Darfur conflict and also participate in rebuilding what had been destroyed by the war as well as help the return of displaced people to their homes.

The delegation also held talks with leaders of the legislative council and the civil administration in the region.

It also visited Kalma and Al-Sarif refugee camps and held talks with humanitarian organizations working there.
