Govt condemns Sudanese nationals involved in violence in Iraq

KHARTOUM, March 1, 2005 (Xinhua) — The Sudanese government on Tuesday condemned the involvement of some Sudanese nationals in violent operations in Iraq.

M_Ismail.jpgIn a press statement, Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Osman Ismail (photo) said, “The involvement of some Sudanese nationals in operations that harm Iraqi peace and security is rejected and denied by the government.”

He pointed out that the Sudanese community in Iraq issued a statement this week severely condemning these operations.

“Such activities do not represent the Sudanese behaviour and morals and their commitment to security and stability,” said the Sudanese foreign minister.

He added that Sudan would work, within the framework of the Arab League or through its bilateral relations, to try to boost the security and stability of Iraq.

“We see that the recent elections in Iraq were an important step toward stability and will help Iraqis reintegrate to the regional and international community,” he added.

The minister also stressed Sudan’s support to the recent change of Iraq toward democracy and the efforts that the Iraqi interim government is implementing to restore security and stability in the country.
