Sudanese VP, American delegation discuss Darfur crisis

KHARTOUM, Mar 2, 2005 (Sudan Tribune) — Sudanese first vice-president, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, has discussed with the US delegation means of containing the Darfur crisis, as well as ways of implementing the Nairobi agreement and improving the relations between Sudan and the USA in all fields.

A_Osman_M_Taha.jpgThe US delegation is led by Charles Snider who is in charge of the Sudan file at the State Department.

Sudanese newspaper Al-Ray al-Amm said that the American delegation, which arrived in Khartoum yesterday, discussed similar matters with the president’s political adviser, Qutbi al-Mahdi.

The delegation will meet later today the minister of foreign affairs, Mustafa Osman Ismail.

In a statement to the press, Ismail pointed out that they would be discussing ways of resolving the problems that led to the delay in the implementation of some of the protocols of the peace agreement.

He said that they would also be discussing the security, political, alimentary and humanitarian situation in Darfur, as well as the two countries’ ties.

The minister hoped that the meeting would be successful and productive.
