Five killed, 39 wounded in central Sudan land dispute
KHARTOUM, Aug 5, 2003 (dpa) — At least five people were killed and 39 injured in clashes over agricultural land at Qantur village near Kosti in central Sudan’s White Nile state, the Sudan News Agency said Tuesday.
SUNA quoted state police chief Major General Faisal Kabbashi as saying his forces had contained “the bloody incident” and restored order, with the wounded taken to nearby Tendelti hospital.
State governor Majzoub Yousif vowed to resolve the issue through judicial procedures to safeguard rights of ownership. The state is one of the richest in Sudan.
