US offers aid to Sudan flood victims: agency
KHARTOUM, Aug 5 (AFP) — The United States has offered assistance worth 250, 000 dollars and two planeloads of relief supplies for victims of the floods in eastern Sudan’s Kassala city, the official news agency said Tuesday.
The Sudan News Agency quoted US charge d’affaires Jeff Millington as saying the planes will arrive here in the next couple of days and the aid be delivered through GOAL, an Ireland-based humanitarian organisation active in Sudan.
At least nine people died and tens of thousands were left homeless last week when the Qash River burst its banks in Kassala, which has since been declared a disaster zone.
