Eritrean president Isaias Afwerki (R) receives the Chairman of the Sudanese opposition National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Mohamed Osman al-Mirghani in his office, on Friday, February 4, 2005. (ERINA).

Al-Mirghani has recently presented an initiative on this regard and seemed he was encouraged by parties concerned to go ahead.

Ali Mahmoud Hasanayn, the deputy chairman of the Sudanese Democratic Unionist party of Mohamed Osman Al-Mirghani, has been exerting efforts since long time ago calling for political reconciliation between the two countries. Hasanayn hopes that Al-Mirghani’s initiative could gain local regional and governmental support alike.

He has refuted, to the Sudanese Media Centre, the allegations that Eritrea was trying to replace NDA by another opposition political faction against Sudanese government.

He said such allegation was unfounded and Eritrea could not adopt such attitude at the time NDA leader is seeking to improve its relations with the neighbours.
