Chadian president briefs Kadhafi on Darfur crisis

TRIPOLI, Libya, Apr 24, 2005 (PANA) — President, Idriss Deby of Chad on Friday briefed Libyan leader, Col. Moammar Kadhafi, in a telephone conversation, on the latest developments in the crisis-prone western Darfur region of Sudan, official Libyan sources disclosed here.

Chadian_Idriss_Deby.jpgThe sources said both leaders also discussed the ongoing preparations for the African Union summit scheduled in the Libyan central resort town of Sirte, and arrangements for the upcoming summit of the Community of Sahel and Saharan States (CEN-SAD, in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

On 16 April, Chad announced that it would resume mediation in the Darfur conflict after Kadhafi requested his continuous role to find peace in Darfur.

Chad had four days earlier suspended its participation in the peace talks between Sudan`s warring parties after accusing Sudanese authorities of supporting rebels fighting the regime in N`djamena.
