Ethiopian police arrest person tearing down posters of candidates
DILA, Apr 28, 2005 (ENA) — Police say it has arrested a person who was tearing down posters of candidates in Wenago woreda District, Gedeo Zone of the South Ethiopia People’s State.
Chief Sergeant Tadese Jego of the woreda police office, said on Thursday 28 April that the person was caught red-handed while tearing off posters bearing candidates of the ruling Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) in Shegedo constituency.
The person was put under control following tip off from the public, he said, adding the person would be brought to justice upon completion of investigation.
On the other hand, the Chief observer of the European Union Electoral Observation Mission to Ethiopia 2005 and a Portuguese member of the European Parliament, Ana Gomes will visit Gonder and Dire Dawa, northern and eastern Ethiopia respectively, on Thursday and Saturday, the mission said.
It said during her visits, Gomes will contact local electoral authorities and relevant political actors to listen to their views about the ongoing electoral process.
The chief observer will receive on 9 May 2005, the 100 Short Term Observers (STOs) coming to Addis Ababa from the 25 EU member states.
