Ogaden’s ONLF calls to condemn Ethiopia for massacre of 31 civilians

On the 15th of November 2005 at about 15:00 Local east African Time, The Ethiopian Occupation Army in The Ogaden, Opened fire on Prisoners who were demanding a better treatment from their captors. Many of the Prisoners were killed. Then the Ethiopian army came to the centre of the town and started shooting indiscriminately at the civilian people. More than 30 people are reported dead from the civilians and the prisoners. This included women, children and the elderly. Hundreds are reported wounded. Then the Ethiopian Army herded the people into the football ground and held them there until nine pm local time. The people were finally allowed to return to their homes and a curfew was imposed on them. The People could hear the cry of the wounded for help but were unable to go out as any body found outside was shot. The number of dead people may rise.

Finally this morning (16th of November 2005), the army collected the dead and ordered the towns folks to dig graves. When the graves were dug they ordered the people to leave the area, but the people refused and one person was shot dead on the spot and others were wounded. The situation is tense and the town’s people are in danger of further abuse. Other in formations confirm that wounded people are not allowed to go to the hospitals and some are dying in their houses.

We request the international community to condemn this heinous act by the Ethiopian army and send a fact finding mission against the violations of Human Rights.
