Darfur conference team to hand over recommendations to rebels, AU

Dec 21, 2005 (ALFASHER) — The President Omer al-Bashir, has issued a directive on formation of a delegation from members of the Comprehensive Conference of Darfur People to leave for Abuja to hand over the recommendations and outcome of the conference to the rebel groups.

Two_tribal_leaders.jpgAccording to the official SUNA, the delegation also will deliver these recommendations to the missions of the United Nations and the African Union in Khartoum.

Chairman of the Comprehensive Conference of Darfur People, Osman Mohamed Yousif Kibir, announced this directive of the President during the final sitting of the conference Wednesday in Al-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State.

Kibir said that a committee of 50 members will be formed as a mechanism to follow up implementation of the conference recommendations.

Kibir hoped that the follow up mechanism will find the necessary support from the Presidency of the Republic and the concerned organs so that it can carry out tasks toward meeting the demands and aspirations of Darfur people.

Kibir informed the conferees about a decision, which was conveyed to him by the State Minister of Transport through a telephone call, that a contract for establishment of the Western Salvation Highway will be signed on December 26 with a company to construct the sectors of Al-Nuhud – Um Kadada and Al-Dein – Niyala, as parts of the Western Salvation Highway.

He described this decision of the government as reflecting its keenness and commitment to put into action the recommendations and outcome of the conference.
