SPLM accuses Sudanese army of violating peace deal

Feb 21, 2006 (MALAKAL) — The Upper Nile state advisor for security affairs, Anthony Edward Nyawelo, has accused the Sudan armed forces of violating the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA).

SPLA_train-2.jpgNyawelo accuses the Government of National Unity of being behind a border conflict affecting Manyo County. He claims that the government is not interested in the people living in the area but only the wealth in the area.

Since December last year, Manyo County has seen a border dispute between Upper Nile State and Southern Kordofan State. Nyawelo alleges that 10 people are still missing after Sudan armed forces troops attacked civilians around Alup last month.

He said he believed that the 10 must have died or been killed by animals.

Speaking to Sudan Radio Service (SRS) in his office in Malakal, he called the presence of Sudan armed forces troops in Alup a clear violation of the CPA.

“It’s a violation. It’s a real violation because an agreement was signed and all of us have to respect it since we know that there is a commission which is going to solve this problem. There is no need by this time to struggle over the borders. Since we are all Sudanese these borders belong to all of us. There is no problem between the tribes on the borders”, said Nyawelo.

He called upon the governments of National Unity and Southern Sudan to resolve the border dispute to prevent the death of more civilians.
