World Bank to rehabilitate Sudan transport infrastructures

May 28, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — World Bank will contribute to the rehabilitation of the transport infrastructures in Sudan. The international institution agreed to finance projects in railways, roads and river transport.

The World Bank has agreed to assign 40 million dollars for rehabilitation of Sudan Railways, 42 million dollars for roads and bridge projects, besides seven million dollars for river transport in first stage.

During a meeting Sunday with the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance, Al-Sheikh Mohammed Al-Mekk, Ishac Diwan, World Bank Country Director for Ethiopia and Sudan reflected the bank’s concern with rehabilitation of infrastructural projects in Sudan toward reconstruction of the war-affected areas.

Al-Mekk said that the around 100 million dollars were utilized for rehabilitation of the Sudan Airways to play its role as national carrier.
