Sudanese rebel delegation ends “successful” Khartoum visit

KHARTOUM, Dec 11, 2003 — The people’ movement [Sudan People’s Liberation Movement] delegation led by Pagan Amum ended the visit to the country this morning. The delegation was seen off at Khartoum Airport by Mubarak al-Fadhil al-Mahdi, the president’s assistant, Dr Majdhub al- Khalifah, the chairman of the [ruling party] National Congress committee set up to hold talks with the delegation, as well as other officials.

Pagan Amum said the visit was successful and added it was part of the ongoing effort to bring about peace in the country. He expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality accorded to the delegation by the government and the political parties.

It is worth recalling that the movement’s delegation arrived in the country last Friday [5 December] and held a number of meetings in the country, the last of which was the meeting with the president of the republic.
