March 16, 2008 (JUBA) — Hundreds of Christians from all walks of life today commemorated at St. Theresa Cathedral in Juba the passion of Jesus Christ triumphs entry into Jerusalem commonly known as Palm Sunday.

Among the congregation was the First Vice President of the Republic and president of the government of southern Sudan, General Salva Kiir Mayardit who is also an elder of St. Theresan parish councilor accompanied by faithful Christians Goss cabinet ministers.

As a Catholic faithful, the Vicar General of Catholic Archdiocese of Juba, Fr. Thomas Igga said the past five weeks has been a moment of reflections to all faithful Christians to reflect on their individuals performances in society and to seeks forgiveness with an individual they might have offended during the 21 years of bitter liberation struggle particularly in Southern Sudan.

Fr. Igaa called on people of Southern Sudan to fully participate in the coming fifth Sudan National Population and Housing Census scheduled for 15th to 30th March 2008.

Fr. Iga said that it would be very important for every head of family to know who spend a night of census, 14th April 2008 in their respective houses in order to give the right information to enumerators of Sudan fifth population and housing census.

Last Friday the Justice and Peace Commission of the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba organized a one day workshop on the theme, “The role of evangelist in the coming Sudan fifth population and housing Census” facilitated by members of Southern Sudan Commission for Census and statistic evaluation headquarters in Juba.

The workshop was attended by nine parish priests of the Archdioceses, religious congregations and the laity across the archdioceses who resolved to voluntarily disseminate census information to all part of the Archdioceses as there was inadequate information dissemination by Southern Sudan census commission to the grass roots people.
