Sudan’s SPLM unveils roadmap to counter ICC move

August 13, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — A high ranking Sudan People’s Liberation Movement official unveiled the content of a roadmap presented by his party to the National Congress Party to block the indictment of Sudanese president by the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.

Speaking to the London based Asharq Al-Awsat, the official said the SPLM roadmap consists of two separated approaches judiciary and political. From one hand the NCP partner calls to try inside the country people who are involved in Darfur crimes under international supervision and taking serious steps to negotiate a political solution with Darfur rebels.

The SPLM proposals also include the reunification of Darfur rebel movements and to start direct talks with it to realise a lasting and fair peace in Darfur without excluding any party. The SPLM official stressed that political solution of the crisis is part of the solution for ICC crisis.

In a meeting held last Sunday August 10, the NCP and the SPLM said they agreed on the objectives and the mechanisms of an initiative launched by the Sudanese president to resolve Darfur conflict after a meeting with the different political forces on July 13.

"The People of Sudan’s Initiative" is aimed at finding a lasting political solution for Darfur crisis and intends to bring justice for Darfur people, fight the violence and to restore security in the region.

It also should adopt a plan to reconstruct and develop the economy of the three states in Darfur and to address the humanitarian situation there announced former south Darfur governor Al-Haj Atta Al Mannan last Sunday after a meeting of the NCP-SPLM committee.

The SPLM official said there are no difference between the People of Sudan’s initiative and the SPLM roadmap adding a joint committee is formed to draw up a structural framework and timetable for the implementation of the initiative which is expected to take place by the end of the year.

He also said that Darfur Peace Agreement signed in 2006 in Abuja remains incomplete and needs to be accomplished by implementing the demands of the Darfur people and putting an end to the war in the province.

He pointed out the possibility of the international support for the Sudanese initiative "if it felt the government and all the other parties were taking serious steps."

Omar Bashir must appear before the ICC and explain himself otherwise he will die in pain sometime later!

From the South to the North and from the East to Western Sudan, we have nothing to do with bashir being indicted in the Hague. His actions in the past and the present explained everything, he must stand trial.

SPLM leadership has a lot of things to do in the South other than working on the roadmap of which its content is to block the indictment of Mr bashir.

I am not a clone, the hardship that I personally passed through during the two decades of war are accounted on bashir and his rogue regime in Khartoum. Bashir used to order antinovs to bomb civilians in the South during the civil war and is now doing the same thing in Darfur.

SPLM hard work to stop this criminal of not being trial will be a hard ticket. How SPLM is going to help bashir in this circumstances, while bashir army is still bombing civilians in Darfur. If SPLM is going to help bashir, bashir needs to himself by respecting the humanity in the Sudan.

There is nothing that is going to derail CPA here. If bashir doesn’t comply with the accords signed through the peace process than his criminal counts are going to increase.

I think this roadmap the SPLM is working on cost a lot, it is better for that money to be used to feed the hungry people who are dieing without something to eat in the South.

bashir must stand trial otherwise he will hit by a thunderstorm without a rain. Who knows what God’s plans are!

    God will help Darfurians.

Thanks to SPLM roadmap is not only to reverse the ICC indictment is also to safe lives of Darfur people.
Darfurian should use Darfur-Darfur dialogue to unite, if South Sudan has come together under south-south dialogue why not them. they have to put aside their differnces and see the welfare of their own people as Darfurian.
SPLM is the party formed by the people and for the people.thanks only advice.

    By Deng William.

I think there will be no any denial for indictment because whatever you have committed and decided you suppose to stand firm for it.
Mr.Omar Bashir as aprisedent of so called Sudan and at the same time a great criminal of this country as a whole should not deny the allegation.
I know Sudanese leadership have right to killed innocent people because it is part of their religion since they command that if you killed a person you can go to Paradise and that is why you see many leaders of Sudan like to killed most.
I appeal to all Sudanese whom associated themselves in this Genocide in Darfur that this is the different time even if you fight with your wife at home yet the world hear the vioce so please whether you want or not Bashir with his partners must seek for ICC to explain issue of the lost life in diagram.

But "indictment" only means that the Sudanese president must answer to the charges of the ICC prosecutor.

If the prosecutor can’t bring enough proof then the charges are dropped and he walks away free.

Sudan has already held its own courts into Darfur and dropped cases because it could not find evidence.

Who is the man in this video clip ? He says

    1. you cannot have a trial without evidence;

    2. 99% of crimes in Darfur are fabrications to accuse the government

In the International Criminal Court al-Bashir can block the charges against him by what he and his party have already said:-

Genocide - it never happened. Less than 10,000 people died.

Rape - " is not in the Sudanese culture or people of Darfur to rape. It doesn’t exist. We don’t have it."

Murder - all lies by the United states to grab our oil.

al-Bashir MUST go to the Hague - to prove the prosecutor wrong!
