Heavy rains affects more than 2000 families in southern Sudan

September 8, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — Heavy floods have affected more than 2000 families in southern Sudan, while many cases of cholera have been reported due to the bad hygienic conditions in the region, an official said on Monday.

Awiel_floods_1.jpgThousands of people have been affected by heavy rains in large areas of North Bahr El Gazal state. The overflow of rivers in the region, particularly the river Lol, devastated the town of Awiel and six surrounding villages.

A total of 2,050 households have been hit and about 10,000 acres of fertile farm lands which grow essential crops are submerged, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies said in a statement issued today in Khartoum.

“The health and hygiene situation is extremely precarious,” warns George Gigibeira, the IFRC’s representative in Sudan. “More than 140 cases of acute watery diarrhoea have been recently reported. The number of malaria cases is also on the rise and is expected to increase further,” he added.

Sudanese Red Crescent volunteers are working hard to bring assistance directly to the most vulnerable people, while its headquarters in Khartoum, in partnership with the IFRC and ICRC missions in Sudan, has sent shelter materials to meet the immediate needs of 2,000 households.

Also, the Sudanese Red Crescent supported by the IFRC had put in place contingency stocks and conducted volunteer trainings to ensure rapid response in case of emergencies. Contingency stocks contained cooking sets, water tanks, tents, sand bags, latrine slabs and mosquito nets.

I think that these people need to be taught about the importance of trees in their environment because they have left their cattle’s to destroy their environment which sound absolutely moral and not appropriate in a society where people deserve to see a better living condition. They need a lot in part of agriculture since they don’t know what is cultivation it’s the main point I have suggest as the reason that they don’t care about their environment. Goss must act smart by providing seminaries to those people not just leaving them to destroy/misuse the environment

Your just behind the point of analysising the truth and bad,so i suggest that you better keep studing if you’re a student,Praying for such incidence to happen to my State sound to be moral and really not like a man who claim to be an educated person.Do you know that “research and you will find as the result of their hands on their environement they have recieved what they have done (misuse) to their environment”,however for your chance of praying for those things to occur in my states it would be good if your a magic man or sort of ghost but if not please shut up and mind your dinnar or whatever to keep your stomach warm.Keep praying as fool with your hands on your environment and smarter will always remain on his side watching you swiming in the fire which you had been looking for.Our issues are LRA,your people (land grabbing),Kenyan and Ugandan nomdics in EA and being left behind by Mr Ghost not Goss anymore because of negative objectives toward us.But there is single time for everythings to be brought to an end.

What is the role of GoSS’s heady president Kiir in helping our people at time of need! I guess GoSS corrupt leaders and crooks such as Pagan and others are wasting our resources by touring Europe and USA while our people are not getting no food to eat or a safe place to live(flood), when those crooks in the GoSS will think of the development of the country!

where is the monies, I mean, our share of the oil revenue? shame on GoSS crooks!
