Sudan refutes rumors that Salva Kiir died

October 8, 2009 (JUBA) – Wild rumors circulated in Juba on Thursday that the President of the Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS) and Chairperson of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), Salva Kiir Mayardit, had died.

The rumors said one of the guards shot him, as others said that his convoy was under fire from unknown assailants, while on his way to Juba Airport on the way to an official visit to the Ugandan capital Kampala.

President Kiir left Juba for Kampala on Thursday morning on an invitation by the Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The rumors, suspected to have originated from Khartoum, quickly spread that President Salva Kiir died in the morning hours of Thursday, which almost caused panic in the semi-autonomous region’s capital.

However, the Vice President of the Government of Southern Sudan and Deputy Chairperson of the SPLM, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, refuted the wild rumor.

Machar said the false rumor was a work of the enemies of peace in the country.

He said sources of such rumors must be investigated.

The Vice President, who saw off President Kiir to Kampala at Juba International Airport at 10:50AM, said he also talked to him on the phone at 3:00PM in the afternoon after his safe arrival to the Ugandan capital.

During an urgent press conference he held in the Sudanese capital, the SPLM Secretary General Pagan Amum dismissed the rumors and reassured that Salva Kiir is conducting his duties normally affirming he left Juba for Kampala where he arrived safely.

While the official news agency SUNA published a short news item saying that Kiir held talks with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on bilateral relations and means of promoting joint cooperation to serve the interests of the Sudanese and Ugandan peoples.

The official spokesperson and minister of Information and Broadcasting, Paul Mayom Akech, also dismissed the rumors, which he said were counter-productive and designed to create instability in the South. "These are wishes of prophets of doom," he said.

The SPLM leadership has been holding an emergence closed door meeting in Juba for the last four days since Monday and discussed a number of pressing national issues such as democratic transformation, disputed census results, general elections and Southern Sudan referendum among others.

The speculation was true athough the attempt was unsuccessful.The Khartoum paid millions to Riek and Matip to kill Mr. Mayardit. it was clearly planed by the Khartoum wanting Riek to use tactic to gun down the President which is not successful. So now what is next Riek since your attempt was intercepted? We all know that a future problem that would cliam the life of Kiir will come from Riek with his counterpart such as Matip.

    1) If you are an Arab in Khartoum, you are disappointed with Dr. Riek Machar’s statement that the sources of this wild rumor must be investigated. You are worried that you may be one of those sources.
    
    2) If you are a black Dinka-Arab, you might be one of those sources that created the rumor to cause confusion and further insecurity in the South.

Don’t you what goes around come around. My friends the days of the future of south sudan are counted on your evil comment. To frank my people, whoever love to play with this issue you will bear it. whoever wish this to happen to any one of Salva Kiir, Riek Macher, Matip, Wani Iga, will a bless to the entire sudanese people. It will not be the same like the Death of Dr John Garang. it will be a South sudanese DARKEST DAYS FOREVER. I am sorry saying this but it is my perspective. You thinks your comment doesn’t cause anything but they are counter-productives.
      
      We seem to lost the aspiration of our belove brave men and women as well as children who endoured the cruel treatment that have been inflicted to our people since the creature. these 2 millions live have been lost in vain. when I look at this one would have to regret why he/she was born amoung these people. I am not insulting and not hating myself but the feeling has compel me to say it.
      
      You people never know why this website was established. it was establihsed for the sake to desintegrate south sudanese a long tribal line. I know very well the web masters who control it are arabs from the north sudan, but correct me if I am wrong.         I must appreciate Jonglei for harbouring a true heart of peace and above all uttering a signal to all readers of this page to be people with constructive ideas rather than airing out understatement targeting individuals especially our leaders.
        I always pray hard for our leaders never to opened this page because its full of immature small people whose interest is to disintegrate south sudan and bring back the dark pass. South Sudan can not stand on Salva Only, it need Riek, Amun, Iga and all the inhabitants. Then why do someone just pop up from the jungle and pin pointed Riek...this is absolutely madness and showing that some people read book to abuse only.
        What has happened need all people to be extremely camp and the government does its investigation. we love our country the south, we love the president and his vice and all the GOSS team. Let them continue to steer the nation to a greater height of self reliance and a nation who view one another as brother not along tribal inclination.

        Dear readers and all, I am confused about the people who call themselves DR. Can anybody tell me what they mean by that? Kiir recently bought him a name DR. from Kenya worth a million dollars, now I can see many people here are following the same thing specially people from south Sudan. In the US, thousands of nuer and dinkas are occupied Iowa state university where DR John Garang graduated believing that they might be like him.       To me, there are a number of clues to the source of this evil rumor. Either people were just scary of such Uganda visits, one of which claimed the life of John Garang in 2005. The rumor-mongers think it could also happen to Salva Kiir in a similar way. It was just a feeling of panic on the visit to Kampala.
      
      Or if the rumors were created by Jellaba in Khartoum, then they wanted to test how the South would react to Kiir’s death before they can actually kill him. This is my second clue.
      
      In this case the Jellaba would want to know whether Kiir’s death would create power struggle in the South in trying to replace him, or unite the South with anger against the Jellaba.
      
      As per the comments below and the SSTV irresponsible statement by Paul Mayom Akech that suspected some people within the SPLM ranks and file to be behind the rumor, the Jellaba now knows that the death of Salva Kiir in their favor can instead create a power struggle between Dinka and Nuer. So watch out!

        I told you my brother, it is never hard to try hard. Thanks for your impatial analysis please keep up and never be tempted when you are analysing and situation keep your opinion and tribe out of site always when it comes to national issues.
        
        As you have rightly put it, someone with Plan B wanted to test our reaction whether we will start bushing ourselves or we start the war so that we are blamed of abrogating the CPA then there will be no elections and more importantly interfer with referendum.
        
        All these are known and the enemy of peace and Unity of Southerners is known.
        
        While we ale deplore the rumors, rumours are not bad because they make us to think twice too.
        
        GOSS/SPLM/Southerners wherever you are, information is power, have precautionary measures always and please by on and information that is crucial to rightful people for further analysis,

      It is good that these rumours are lies by the coward people but you all have to remember this says. That’s there is no smoking sign without the fire burning somewhere. What I mean by this, there may be a plan somewhere within in the Sudan. If you are all wise enough than find out why Ali Tatha second vice president of the Sudan is now to be remove out from the party of NCP? Al Bashire has his name in the agenda to remove replace him within his party? How many times Ali and Rick had made discussions for this year’s alone and nothing had been achieved so far as we all know?
      
      In case of Mr. Dot face Matip Nhail. He has very simple history to tell. Martip before he joined the movement he was working in village with chief of Nuer Bull as a bodyguard later he decided to join the movement of SPLA. Look what he did in 1991 with Riak. Martip break away from Riak militias and inform his own militias which was Nuer Bull alone to fight with SPLA against the South. One day his own chief from Nuer Bull community committed himself and went to Martip to have meditation with him to advice him with simple questions as a Bull leader. His simple question was how come you break away from the SPLA and inform your own militias which are Nuer Bull alone to fight with the whole South. He become mad and gave only two hours to the chief of warning him that don’t you think that I am not the same Martip your former police man who use to work for you? He has orders his militia’s immediately to kill his own chief of Nuer Bull. Please dear readers when it comes to the leadership for Nuer people be careful and don’t trust them at. These people are really desperate for the leadership not for our interest for the South.

      I think they have mental diseases. Other wise, they are primitives people who do not understand the meaning of politic and civilization, people are suppose to get civilized not to work for useless tribes which can not get a suitable ground for the further future.

    You are preaching a dangerous tribal message, not only for your community’s future, but also for the rest. Can’t you find something else to criticize Riek Machar on that preaching that tribal messages? The fact that you have run away and live thousands of miles from Sudan where you hate messages can take toll on communities should not be used by you a free space from being victimized by the results of your evil comments.
    
    Let me tell you this. I am a critic of Salva Kiir most of the time and I called him incompetent. But I should never wish him dead since this is a different thing all together. Yes, I would better wish him resign. And this is the democratic and healthy way of changing leaders.
    
    I guess that the rumors might have been circulated by Salva Kiir’s close friends who just panicked and worried that he might be killed like late John Garang with such Uganda visits. They just wanted to pre-empt. That could be the thing.

Within Sudan we dont have pure Arab, but I mean they interbreded with us. The only thing they have in common in North because they all Muslim. Forget about we all fought for war. If we need a stable State, we have to given a leadership to those small tribes not DIKA, NUER and EQUATORIAN and we can still Dominant The Government in other areas.

  There are a lot of plans and attempt carry out by Basher party which we all know and before we turn around and put this silly rumors on Reek or Matip you will have no different with the enemy who plan this. understand one thing here, you are giving Basher party more chance and Idea. You have to wait and find out first before you put it on them. They are our leaders and I hope they are also fighting for the independence of the south. Do you thing they gone find this great positions if they welcomes Arab to take or dismantle the little southern Sudan government? I think Riek feel good that he have his own government of the south and there is no need again for him to accept any craft from basher.

  i have been ignoring the rumor for long because that is false.
  My friends those kind of incidents are not the one people should be happy because NCP and SPLM enemies when to test the reaction of SPLM.
  For those seem like dancing with the false tale, better killed youself because President Kiir Mayardit is breathing in the South now.
  I need to be frank to our enemies that are gainst SPLM, if something happen like what happen to DR John Garang Mabior or intentionally for hunger looking power, then that will the end of the world. Simple, that will be automatic war between those who attemted it.
  This should not happened second time other we will really be sure for the cause without invetsigation.
  If dnt need war not to happen then Southerners need to be careful with something like this.

We hear that there were people made dancing in Juba and others people were unhappy for what this evil rumos happen but I would like to reminders every one in Southern Sudan that, we must not just thinking for leadership rather than the life of our leaders in Southern Sudan. Salve Kiir Manyardit also must understand the way some people react in Juba and he must be careful when doing thing or appointed people. Those who are in GOSS are not all with him, because some of them are having different agendas but failure to acknowledge this will be danger to we Dinka people particular.

I remenber the same rumor was manufactured in Khartoun in the 90s that the late Garang had died, yet he was well and ok in New Site. We do not want him dead but we want good governance, equality, a network of infrastructure and good security to every body in South Sudan. This rumours should be investigated and the senders to face justice, they have to trace the source which came through a mobile phone, all those you recieved it should show investigators, investigators should ask phone operators to identify the number, if an operator who operate in south sudan refuse to show the source they should be ask to leave the region.I’am sure the sender will be traced, either from Sudani network or Zain network, MTN network or vivacell of southsudan,also gemtel in south sudan should be questioned, this are the main cell phone operators in sudan. Sudani network is owned by sudan security services , so they can also be behind the false message.

I suspect source as follow, 1-sudani network(sudan security/army), 2-MTN (southafrican) and 3-gemtel network(ugandan/sudanese), may be 4-Vivacell also, but Zain is purely innocent network with no governments or evil intentions.

  Yeah, it is an evil news and that why people say it is so demoning to Riek to plot an assassination of Salva Kiir. Riek Machar is very filled with fearful nightmare nowadays since president El Bashier said he is working on the replacing of his long term vice president Ali Osman, which prompted Riek to plot murdering of president Kiir before he fired like Ali Osman is going to be. Riek Machar doesn’t care anyways since he had his postion reserved in SPLM-DC by Lam Akol. Believe it or not, referendum will be bitter on president Kiir and his vice Riek Machar. Either one will make it to the referendum but not all since Riek’s plan is to assassinate president Kiir before he kicked him out in the party. I appreciate the people who always make comments only on the issues that affect South Sudanese in general. I am Dinka myself, this is my idnetity in term of tribe but the ethnic identity should not blurr my bigger identity as South Sudanese, the recognition that we fought for. We took up arms to fight a war of liberation for almost half a century to be recognised as South Sudanese not as certain tribe although the proportion or numbers of people we fought the liberation war differ from region to region, from ethnic group to ethnic group, from clan to clan and from section to section, this doesn’t matter because our single purpose was to liberate our beloved country, that is South Sudan. However, some comments here in this website are outrageous, it seems like a particular section of Dinka in Upper Nile are becoming notorious for nothing, and they did not fight any war, the truth is that during the war the number of population that joint the SPLA was very high followed by Nuer, this is visible in SPLA songs or morales, but Dinka Bor did not fight any war, they were hiding behind other Dinka to only keep on singing that we Dinkas have captured this town and that.

Dinka Bor were protected by Garang, that was why all Jech Amer or Red Army from Bor were directed to go to Pinyudo in Ethiopia and the rest of the Red Army from other tribes or other sections of Dinka were directed to go to some other places like Dimma to be trained as soldiers with limited access to education while the redm Army in Pinyudo were provided with qualified teachers and given a name "Teerab" which means seed in Arabic, does it mean only Dinka Bor should be the seed for the whole South Sudan. Dinka Bor bullies other ethnic groups in South Sudan only in the name of Dinka but they are cowards. For instance, they are occupants of almost all the Equotarians land but the unreasoning Equotarians who are not able to differentiate among Dinka sections just generalise hence involving all in the conflict, Dinka Bor likes causing problems with their false philosophy that they are born to rule, but do not withstand the consequence, like in 1992, when the whole Bor area was captured in two weeks. I have only highlighted few here, wait for another episode.

Unity State Governor Calls for Peace in SPLA

The Governor of Unity State Brigadier Taban Deng Gai has called for peace between the SPLA forces that were involved in a clash in Bentiu last week.
Speaking Wednesday upon his arrival from a trip overseas, Governor Gai termed the clash ‘a minor disagreement that can be solved locally’ and called for calm.
He commended his deputy who is also the Minister of Agriculture Colonel Majok Dau, the SPLA Fourth Division Commander Major General Peter Pernyang, the Joint Integrated Units’ Commander Colonel Tito Biel Wich, the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) and the other organised forces for their efforts to control the clash.
“Governor Deng says it is just like any other incident, erupted within the SPLA and did not involve the force and another military organ like SAF. It will therefore be solved peacefully here at the state level”, he said.
He assured residents who had run away from their homes for fear of more violence that peace have been restored and urged them to return to their homes.
A high-powered delegation from the SPLA General Headquarters are currently in Bentiu to investigate the incident
Speaking on the state radio, Bentiu 99 FM, Governor Gai appealed to all the forces to cooperate fully with the investigations team till the root cause of the incident is found and the rule of law applied as necessary.
SPLA soldiers were involved in a clash last Friday following a misunderstanding in Bentiu between the SPLA soldiers guarding the headquarters of SPLA Deputy Commander- in- Chief General Paulino Matip Nhial and the SPLA soldiers guarding the headquarters of the Governor of Unity State.

Uganda - October 9th 2009
Uganda has today marked her 47 years of independence from British rule with celebrations held at Kololo Airstrip.

The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Nutebi II, the President General of Forum for Democratic Change, Col. Kizza Besigye, the President of the Democratic Party, John Sebaana Kizito and the President of Conservative Party, John Ken Lukyamuzi were officially invited by the government to attend the national celebrations but none of them has appeared at Kololo Airstrip.

However the President of Southern Sudan, Salva Kiir, the Liberia, Sirleaf Johnson, heads of diplomatic Missions among other foreign diplomats have arrived at Kololo.

The President of Uganda, Gen. Yoweri Museveni together with all his cabinet ministers, MPs from the ruling National Resistance Movement as well as other senior government officials have arrived.

The former President of Uganda, Godfrey Lukongwa Binaisa, a few sons and daughters to fallen former President of Uganda, the Conqueror of the British Empire Chancellor Field Martial Iddi Amin Daada have also attended today’s National independence celebrations.

guys we shouldn’t jokes and have a fun on such issues.
we must show love to our leaders whether from any parts of southern Sudan.

my dear southerner Sudanese, when are we going to have unity, equality, and freedom of expressions?
let us uproots all kind of disunity among us as southerners

why do we likes evils act and what do we get?

i am also proud of the people who offers their precious life for the course of our freedom and have also struggle for our freedom that we are waiting in 2011.

it’s a freedom that shall not and will not be taken away any

Ahahaha!!!!!The so called Lado(Bor Boy) where does he originate from? He seems to be a confuss Southern Sudanese who need to be advise. I think he is an Arab from the North. His wishes are so deadly that he need to arrested and investigated on why he made this kind of statement on public website.

Dear Southerns, Is it impossible to issue an arrest warrant for Lodu(Bor Boy? Advise and counsel him; if he does not listen, let adversity teach him.
I think this is the behaviour of stipid kind of human beings on earth as the say goes ’’A cow gave birth to a fire: she wanted to lick it, but it burned; she wanted to leave it, but she could not because it was her own child’’.

I also advice the so-called Lado to change his nmae with immediate effect. Do not use Equatorian name. Equatorians are reasonable citizens of Southern who does post this childish kind of article on pub. site.

    Well, let me allude to the enemies of peace in southern sudan and beyond. It was made clear in close door meeting in khartoum which was privately attended by Riek. The pupose of the meeting was to cripple the CPA and get rid of Kiir. In that close door meeting Riek was given millions of dollars. FOR your information southerners, Riek and Matip Nhial are proxies of Khartoum, nothing good they do for the good of southern sudan. The only clean man in Nuer regarding this conspircy is the governor Taban Deang Gai. We have learned that some other nuer here in khartoum and diaspora are against what Riek and matip wanting to do. Rike was blackmaling the people of southern sudan in his ill press addressing,frustrated for unsccessful attempt. SO the quesstion is, what is next Mr. Machar and Matip? We know that your intentions are to think for yourselves and not for the mission you are commissioned to do.
    
    Last week, Matip’s troops full out in the SPLM and formed their own wing because they are not satified by Matip’s purpose. Matip himself went to Bentiu trying to hurt the loyal governor of the unity state, mr. Gai. All of these were happeneing under the table hopin that if Riek become next president then matip will be vice.
    
    For your informations guys, riek will never ever lead in south sudan, he is good where he is, enough is enough. I ought Taban to lead than greedy riek or matip.

Am soo disapointed when I see southern sudansese fighinting each other, or spreading the words of hatred to each other in this websit.this has distroyed our image to the rest of the world communities. We should stop blaming each tribes for wrong do, instead we should held those who do the wrong accantable for their action.
Please,we have got to stop this kinds of acts. Otherwise,it will lead us into a wrong path.

Ladies and Gentlement:

Iam soo worry abuot the future of our country southern sudan,for couple of reasons.
1) We have a very weeek spirit,we don’t approciat our leaders for their job.
2) we are very triblistic to a point of unrecovery,and that we tend not to respecte some of our leaders just because they are from a certain tribe..
3) corruptions is as high as it can gets.
With all these few outline, I think if we don’t act right now, their is going to be a disaster happening soon in 2011. If we do not united now, the Arab will rebound again, and ensalves southern econamically, and physically.

No, it did not matter when they Killed Deng Nhial, it also din’t matter when they killed Dr. John and it will not matter if they kill Salva, what really matters here is the struggle must continue, we must die one by one to the end until the goal is attained. Warning, those who are playing with fire must be alert that they are playing with a fire that can never be put out, let them be aware that we the people of South Sudan were born to be free and if we are not free, we must fight to the bitter end and necessary we must die for our freedom. One out of ten among us will free us, and it does not matter whether that person is yet to be born or already born, it is all about freedom and we must be free.

Dear South Sudanese,

The rumor is an ill-concieved enemies of peace conspiracy as correctly refuted by South sudan vice president, Dr. Riek Machar. ’President Salva Kiir is now on his way to Zimbabwe after stop over in Uganda. The false rumor that he died was circulated by text message of Mobile users in Sudan. As usual, the source of the text message might have come from the North that owns the telephone companies’.

’And on reflection, was it really such a bright idea for intelligence southerners & some who currently hold power to accept this enemy rumor so quickly? Even more urgent is to avoid thinking the crisis has already precipated in south sudan.

Kiir is on to important things touring some African countries to rally them to support sudan at this difficult time. Don’t play into the enemy of peace’s hands ready to accept what that implies in reality. It is irresponsible!!

  Please learn to acknowledge truths if you don’t that Riek Machar had indeed plotted the assassination of Salva Kiir. What Riek Machar doesn’t know actually and I bet it would be alright if you tell him that regardless of what, still Southern Sudan doesn’t and won’t accepted him to be thir president. People prefer Taban Deng Gai or other Nuer else to lead them than the Riek Machar who had traited SPLM/A moment and genocided innosent civilians for the sack of being an Arab pro-militia. Kiir will die anyway because no one is exempted from it, otherwise christ would have not cried on the cross.

    Our aims as south sudanese should be to wrap up our independence by 2011. It would be tough, but the likely losers from a change of power in sudan may not want to cope with the aftermath of post-referendum crisis that engulfs sudan as whole if they boycott or rigg the referendum illegally.
    
    Optimistically, Dr. Riek Machar Teny has a good chance of winning election to be a president in South Sudan. Dr. Riek’s policies & governance would be based on equal treatment of all south sudanese. No one will be under-represnted or over-represented in proportion to their share of national cake or politics among south sudanese. He should never evaluate his chance of political survival rather pessimisticaly in south sudan.
    
    Please respect the dignity of south sudanese including your very name, junub! Are you Junub for nothing? South sudanese would correct their leader, Salva Kiir alive, including confronting him if needs be; but not eliminating him through voilence means.
    
    Dr. Riek will be your president through constitutional process or election. When that time comes, you have a right to fight his government through legal or illegal means whatever you choose. For now, quit your immature politics of death wishing death to Salva Kiir & the rest of our leaders.
    
    Being a president is not entittlement. No one is entitle to be president. People have to work so hard to earn it through democratic process. Dr. Riek will be a democratic president as he is well known to be a democratic person if he wins the presidential election.

    Naath are Propaganda People.
    
    For what i know so far, most our Naath(Nuer) bros Does not know what we fighting for. because they grow up there in bush and forget their back past. Only A few Naath know what we fighting for. But most of them know only Jang is their Enemy.
    Due to the conflict that started by Garang and Akout Atem Group. That where the problem begin. It erase Naath Ideas to confrant our Enemy settlers. They turns their angers against Jieng of UpperNile, Particularly Ngok that time up to now a day. The closed Jieng to them.
    
    Most of those on this website are never deal with really Problem in the south. Those who have been throuht it, are dead and others are quite or not saying bloody things. Most of Naath thinks of Killing Ajang is the best thing they could achieved in south. Jieng Never Declare war against Any tribe in the south Accept Arab. Some them never knew where Jieng is actually. they think Jieng Of UpperNile and that all. I can not believe the PHD, talking tribal like most of the people on the site.
