January 12, 2010 (BOR) – Gunmen, local people claim to be Murle
tribesmen, killed seven people since the break of New Year in Bor
County, Jonglei as disarmament cover the state’s host County.

Destroyed huts are seen in the southern Sudanese village of Duk-Padiet, which suffered recent fighting, in southern Sudan Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009. (Timothy Mckulka-UNMIS)

Among the dead two students of Werkok Secondary School, three women and two men, Sudan Tribune has learnt. The students were attacked last Friday on their way from Kapat to Werkok Boma, about 12 milesand eastern Bor Town, after attending a church meeting there. One student died on spot while the other passed away on Sunday at Bor civil hospital, relatives say.

Sources in Makalcuei, also close to Werkok, say two women mowing grass in east of the village were found dead on Thursday a day after being reported missing.

Eyewitness says their remains show that the assailants used knife to slaughter them. A similar observation has been reported for a women killed by raiders in Pariak area, Kolnyang Payam last Saturday. In Kolnyang raiders drove away over forty cattle.

In Makuach Payam, two men were killed in separate attacks on December 31, 2009, the January 2, 2010 attack brings the death tolls to seven in less than two weeks in the New Year 2010. A man identified as Mabior Deng was injured and is being nursed at Bor Civili Hospital.

The names of the deceases are held back in accordance to Dinka Bor custom of death announcement.

The attacks on civilians and cattle raiding coincide with on-going disarmament that has already covered Duk, Twic East and Bor Counties. A similar guns retrieving is also reported in Uror, Ayod and Nyirol Counties.

Since the disarmament commenced early last December, thousands of arms have being peacefully handed-in. However, civilians say the Sudan People Liberation Army - Division 8 has aggravated the voluntary process by harassing civilians.

A man was shot and injured in Pariak last week for allegedly giving gun with barrel aiming at the soldiers. A similar assault on civilians by organized forces has being reported in Twic East.

Sudan Tribune cannot independently verify that SPLA is using excessive force during this disarmament. However, past evident in Jonglei disarmament and elsewhere in the south pines SPLA soldiers of shooting armed civilians.

Bor County Commissioner Maker Lual Kuol confirmed to the Sudan Tribune at his office on Monday that attacks on civilians has increased in recent days “but disarmament must continue” to end scapegoat from neighbors that Bor people are holding back their guns.

Mr. Maker says neighboring Murle, for instance, may resist disarmament if Bor isn’t.

The commissioner says about 600 guns have being collect in the last few days but says “we are still receiving more information.”

On atrocities committed by raiders, the commissioner says the death toll could be even higher since some incidents could not be timely communicated to his office given poor communication networks.

Meanwhile the disarmament exercise has angered local youth with others terming it as “politicized strategy” that leaves civilians unprotected. An angry youth shouted to a group of reporters waiting to receive names of SPLM nominees for next April elections on Sunday that “when you meet the [Jonglei] state Governor, ask him ‘why is SPLA is taking gunning but does not provide security?”

Jonglei state suffered bloodiest time in 2009 in cattle raiding, attacks on administrative centers and child abduction among the Murle, Dinka and Nuer were more than 1,000 people died. The state and South Sudan government blame the worsening security to guns owned by civilians since the signing of Comprehensive Peace Agreement 5 years
ago.

Southern Sudan authorities – under the leadership of former rebels the
Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) also swiftly accuse peace
partner, the National Congress Party (NCP) of supporting former
militia in the south so it depicts that “the south cannot govern
itself.”

But the semi-autonomous government carries great responsibilities to
ensure civilians safety, according to activist and aids organization.

In a recent report on Jonglei’s Tribal conflict International Crisis Group says “The Government of South Sudan should make police reform a greater priority, as they are unable to address domestic security threats.”

“It must recognise the primarily local nature of the conflicts, extend
state authority, and prove itself a credible provider of security lest
violence become an obstacle on the road to self-determination and
beyond,” explains Zach Vertin, Crisis Group’s Horn of Africa analyst.

our leaders are seem to play their own political interest rather than saving the life of ordinary citizens. Why did they disarme people who never went to attack other people while other communities are armed by northerners. Dinka should be aware of nuer miltias and murlei gangs. These bandit people are used by northerners to destroy peace and voting right of Southern Sudan in 2011.

    • 12 January 2010 03:33, by Pandit

disarment is need to be carried on after 2011 than now because everyone need to defend themselves from any gangs activities from either sides

      • 12 January 2010 05:23, by Gatwech

Bor Dinka are the first liars in South Sudan. They provoke others and cry when taught a lesson. Now Kuol Manyang has told them to hide their guns this is why the disarmament is failing by collecting only 600 guns in the whole of Bor villages.

Recently it was reported that up to 5,000 guns were collected from Mundari community of Terekeka by General Wang Chiok. That was the real disarmament with open heart from Mundari leaders.

Who is carrying out the disarmament in Bor areas. That commander might have fallen into the traps of Kuol Manyang who always resists to disarm his Bor militias and their gangs who roam Equatoria states with cattle and armed to the teeth.

        • 12 January 2010 05:56, by Dinka Boy

          Gatwech,

I want to laugh at you loudly because you have shollowed minded of Nuer indeed.
Do you know why they don,t have more guns? because they all are in SPLA. Many of them in Division1( Abyei division), Divison5( Bilfam), Malakal, Bintiu and Aweil.
They are all SPLA, there is no civilains with the private gun like you nuer who are armed by NCP to kill innocents in the South.
See now that is why we always said that SPLA is for Dinka meanly while Nuer are mostly amilitia Arab parasites.

          • 12 January 2010 06:57, by Gatwech

Well, Dinka Boy, the number of Bor Dinka in the whole SPLA cannot reach even 2000 people. I know they have many officers without soldiers. One officer from Bor Dinka can be equated with only 100 soldiers from Bor Dinka community. Don’t lie because they are cowards as well who fear to go to front lines. You can find mostly Nuer, Equatorians and Dinka of Bahr el-Ghazal plus other tribes, but NOT Bor Dinka. They are not in the army my friend.

            • 12 January 2010 07:49, by Deng Akol Agut-tungdoun

              Dear Gatwech,

I though the Almighty God has given you a heart that beat like any body’s but for sure you are still chicken hearted as you were in the past. Army and Bordinka are two different things of which avarage thinking human being can differenciate. Whether they are 2000 or 200 in the army does not matters, what matters alot is how they handle their duties in the army. 1,000,000 Nuer soldiers in SPLA are just figures which represent nothing but "eating grasshopers" which once saw anything green can just clear and keep on doing zero work. Bordinkas were 2,000 during those hard day and they manage to resisted the arabs and afro-arabs. Now that you admit they are 2,000 in the army, they have maitained their numbers in the same army that fought for Junubin freedom, they are not chasing the wind in any way as the afro-arabs did in the past, what do you thinks they can do now? Is it not crstal to you? learn to see things as you brothers, Junubins do.

Thinks deep and fill you ear before emptying you ugly mouth.

              Be bless.

Deng Akol Agut-tungduon, a man far away from tribalism.

              • 12 January 2010 09:10, by Gatwech

                Akol Deng,

Don’t lie. These Bor Dinka soldiers were cowards who never participated in the real fighting but were residing either in refugee camps or places already captured by soldiers from Nuer, Equatorians and Dinka of Bahr el Ghazal and other tribes.

                • 12 January 2010 10:18, by Deng Akol Agut-tungdoun

                  Haaa,Empty headed Gatwech in USA,

Who, here is lying? If nuer are really true fighter, can you name the town that was liberated by nuer without other Southerners and I will name the towns liberated by Bordinka alone.

Talk like a man and not like hyena.

                  Be bless,

Deng Akol Agut-tungduon, a man far away from tribalism.

To stop more killing and nagative ethnitity GoSS should not stop disamament process, Diarm them and eliminate anyone who will not respond to the SPLA. Those who attack and killed seven people must be found and executed in front of the people. Oh God Give the South and I will restore peace your people shall live in peace and harmony . I will kill all who will oppose me and I will show no mercy I will kill Million and purify your land from the evil doer. Give the South and you shall see the rivers of the blood, poor, and civilian will enjoy, but wrath and woe and curse and shame on the corrupt politician.
All tribes and citizens must respect the laws and the soverignity of the state.
Governer should order police and the SPLA to get the outlaws and kill them.

Your infantile and overzealous anti-Dink venom, has enabled you to weave a most preposterous theory of history- devoid of any historical fact... in other words, you want to reverse reality.

It’s funny that you would place the Nuer on the list first, and that you felt the need in placing the Dinka of Bahr el-Ghazal last; Dinka Bahr el-Ghazal, more than anyone else-fought this war. Aweil alone, contributed far more soldiers to the movement than the entire Nuer tribe, combined!

You trying to distort history, resembles a horse trying to count by stamping its hooves.

                  It’s Pure Comedy.

I did visit a lot of disscusion group, but there isn’t something like this, very dirty and hopless

There is nothing i hear from you other than defending your own tribe. Do you people realize that a divided nation shall always fall united in defeat? Being either Nuer or Dinka doesn’t mean i have to defend them in where ever summit i attend even if something has not gone right!

If all what South Sudan continues to produce are soft-minded men like you who focus on nothing else but tribalism, it is purchasing its own spiritual death on the installment plan.

Aniwayz almost always, the creative dedicated minority has made the world better. Let me give you guys a benefit of doubt that still out of your tribes there are tough guys who have a broader focus on meaningful change of South Sudan rather than daily cultivation of ethnic differences, so you better stop diluting their outstanding personalities of uniting South Sudan and working for the change we all want to see in our nation.

          Gatwech,

Bor Militia, we have never have militia and we will never be because we don’t move back and forth between the warring parties. Militia is Nuer coward tactic to avoid war with the north while the rest of the southerners are encountered ruthless enemy.

What do you mean by whole Bor villages? you don’t know what you are talking about. The report was about Bor county and also you can’t compare Bor county with Mundari communities? if you don’t know anything about the topic then why do you want to make everything up. 5,000 guns were collected by who and when? give me the evident. i know your hatred toward Kuol because he was the one who kicked Dr.Riek ass. Hatred of the south future is part of the most Nuer culture. now you want to distracted people from paying attention to the real issue. you did it in 1991 when the SPLA was closed to capture Juba as a result you surrendered to Bashir and came back shamelessly.

          • 12 January 2010 07:03, by Gatwech

            Dengcol,

You mean you don’t even know that 5000 guns were collected from Mundari? It was displayed on SSTV for all to see unless you don’t have satellite TV channel.

Bor Dinka have militias every where in the South. You find them in Nimule, Magwi and some of them were responsible for the attacks against Mundari last year. They are headed by a cononel. Didn’t you know that too, or are you trying to deny it?

Now they are organizing an islamic movement in the South under the Bor Dinka diehard Muslim called Sheikh Tayir Biar. You will NEVER succeed in trying to deny facts, dude...

When I read this kind of coment on this web, it makes me sad.
What kind of people are you? I don’t care about tribalism because I don’t believe in them. Criminals who takes life of others should not be treated as a tribal isue. How many human races are dwelling in the west, live alone the tribe shit. Stop preaching Stone age ideologies which are dragging Africa as the whole down. No one should defend anyone who took someone else’s life. We are all brothers and we should keep it that way or otherwise we will all die fools. if eye is for an eye, the whole world would become blind. think about. I don’t live in Sudan but I do not like what I see there. the world has change, you too need to change. stop preaching divisions among the same people.

      Dear readers,

Disarming civilians now after over 3000-4000 were killed in the last five years? Where were SPLA & GOSS in the last five years? My heart goes to the dead mothers & children of south sudan violently killed over politicized operations.

To the sad memory of over 500 Lou-Nuers civilians killed over disarmament by SPLA soldiers in 2006. The civilian disarmament was politicized by powerful SPLA’s tribal military leaders in 2006. People are weeping over spilled milk now. Peaceful disarmament of civilians is a dead issue today. There others positive options only after the corrupted leadership for the last five years is gone.

        DINKA&NUER(SOUTHERNERS)

I have been advising alot in my comments about the internet wars between those who pretent to be Dinka and those to be Nuerm that you lost your aim.

I dont see any point why people leave behind the block heading of the topic, instead you just abuse one another with no good course. If you are trying to creat enimity between the two, I asure you that God will one day ask you for the blood of those innocent souls who are dying and will dy because of these instigations.

Please set your minds in order and face the challenges at the ground which is being pose by the real enemy if you are truly southerners and not fictous.

      Dear Pandit,

This goverment of Salva Kiir and Riek Machar are playing their own politics in the South. In fact, Salva Kiir is not knowing the focus of Rieck Machar in this governmnet. He is playing power greedy game that might end up in the overthrowing of him( Salva Kiir) if he keep this administration. See, the disarmamant was about to be conducted with those who attack innocent civilians(nuer),but it did not happen because Salva Kiir govern has been threaten by Riek Machar adminstartion after him.
Everything that Salva Say in paterning to Nuer Personal become a threat to the governmnet. Now people are dying in Warrap state and he never says anything. Civilians are dying everywhere, and there is no soultion. Why not he kick out this militia that are behind his governmnet by all mean.
Now Dinka are dying more than the North-South War.
Anyway, Human being learn through eye for an eye and atooth for atooth. I think that way we will secure our lives.

      Hi Mr, Pandit

you are right Mr.pandit, I don’t see any help from SPLm/A leaders because in every part of southern Sudan there’s fighting and the Government doesn’t take actions.

shame on political advisers Like General Lual Diing Wol to mention but a few because they don’t advise Dr. Kiir Mayardit to see the vulgar conditions which are face by civilians themselves. If God chooses those People like Kuol Manyang And the Former minister of finance and economic planning H.E Kuol Athian Mawien to rule the entire nation of southerner Sudan, the thing scan be better and there will be decreased of insecurity of southern Sudan.

May the almighty God rest them in peace.

Bor Dinka have been crying even before any disarmament took place in their tiny villages. Their cry is traditional, cultural and endless whether armed or disarmed...

  • 12 January 2010 03:38, by thieleling

          Dear readers,

Why and why is this site been turned to Nuear and Dinka? It is good guys that you should read books than writing tribalistic idiots in an international site like S/T.on top of that it is not Nuer/Dinka site.

Our hearts goes to the relatives of the slaughtered. But I don’t understand the correlation between the incident and the photo showed as the result of the incident. Using unrelated incident to indicate unrelated stories is more like inciting a conflict that never exsist. This is not a professional reporting or journalistic in it form. I appreciate Mr. Thon Aleu to bring us those recurring incident but, he need to tell them like the way they happened.

              Majang,

I was told that this guy calling himself Dinka Dominated SPLA has mental illness. Deal with him cautiously. He may turn out to be the first Bor Dinka recruit of Al-Qaeeda as their son, Sheikh Abdallah Deng Nhial has joined the jihadist movement as their presidential nominee under Turaba’s directives and another Bor Dinka Sheikh Tayir Biar is the ring leader of extremist Muslims in the South. We already have terrorists in South Sudan.

  • 12 January 2010 05:27, by Gatwech

    Dear readers,

If the so-called governor of Jonglei is playing cat and mouse game to hide his Bor Dinka community’s guns, then other communities in Jonglei should equally play the same game too. There is no excuse for fake insecurity from Murle even when the Bor Dinka are the ones murdering themselves over the elections competitions like the Warrap state incident where even police officers were targetted by those mad civilians.

DO DISARMAMENT COMPREHENSIVELY OR DON’T DO IT AT ALL!!!

    • 12 January 2010 05:51, by junub

ANOTHER 45 PEOPLE KILLED TODAY IN GOGRIAL BY NUER MILITIA.

ALL WHO ARE DYING NOW ARE DYING BECAUSE KIIR. THE SELECTED PRESIDENT TURNED OUT TO BE TRIBALIST AND TARGETING DINKA BOR PEOPLE AS HIS NUMBER ONE ENEMY.

      • 12 January 2010 05:57, by Gatwech

        Junub,

Those are rival Dinka clans fighting over elections competitions. Even in Tonj South I read the news that there is potential fighting between Gen. Nhial Deng Nhial, SPLA minister and his challenger. There is deadly competion between Salva Kiir Mayardit’s group and the group of Salva Mathok Gengdit in that area of Gogrial. Please don’t blame it on the Nuer.

I MAY MOVE TO THE SOUTH BY THE END OF THE MONTH. I HOPE YOU GUYS THERE IN SUDAN WILL WELCOME ME!

    • 12 January 2010 05:52, by Gatwech

      Terrorists in the South?

I was told that this guy calling himself Dinka Dominated SPLA has mental illness. Deal with him cautiously. He may turn out to be the first Bor Dinka recruit of Al-Qaeeda terrorists in South Sudan as their son, Sheikh Abdallah Deng Nhial has joined the islamic jihadist movement as their presidential nominee under Turaba’s directives and another Bor Dinka Sheikh Tayir Biar is the ring leader of extremist Muslims in the South. We already have potential breeding ground for terrorists in South Sudan. Americans have already warned us, we should watch out!!!

      • 12 January 2010 20:46, by Khent

        Gatwech:

"Terrorist"- as a label- fits Abdullah Chuol like a glove.

Ps: Sarcasm only works after you demonstrate that you know what you’re talking about. Someday in the future, when you’ve learned something, your past use of sarcasm may actually seem funny.

Instate to send the condolences to the decease, you are supporting the act of Satan. Look here when you are slap in the face as human u get mad and talk as much as you want, but the opponent will maybe apologies or fight. So why don’t you leave the people who are crying for their decease ones alone and which them the best in their future? One more question do you believe in TEN COMMANDMENTS? In case you dont know then i will help you, Do not still, Do not Kill, Do not lie, Respect your mom your dad................ and so but in this article there is killing, do you support it? Love, live, learn. Nothing between this three that you shown in your writing, some of us afford to do those but i wonder if you have one. I will never feel happy when i hard or see a dead innocent person whom i dont have problem with specially the young ones, women. It is unfortunate for a great leader of all nation or community to love
unnecessary killing of Dogs chickens, monkeys, and thing that breath on this planet earth leave alone a human like your self. Please you will never live your life happy if you support evil act in your life i quot and mean it. The dead ones are listening for who is wishing them death on this earth and for what reason they were kill?

It is very hard to see our people of sudan (south sudan)lost thier lives daily, And that’s wrong because those whom were lost them lives we much need them for building & developing the south.
So what is the benafit of killing our lives?
And if I kill some one, The family of this man will lost avery very active person for the them & south sudan and for the whole of sudan.
Our leaders lets do some thing to stop all these clashes.
Dear friend what asuch things are you talking about (Nuer will burn all dinkas & Dinka will kill all Nuer)SO HOW CAN WE BUILD A NATION?

    • 12 January 2010 12:01, by Raan

      Pandit,

If you think Gatwech is not correct just go to any nearby barrack and confirm to yourself that the ratio of Nuer to Dinka is 200:1.
During the war it was 2000 Nuers to 2 Dinkas because the now claimed liberators were in refugees camps or displaced camps.

      SLAVERY
No Nuer had been and will never be a slave but Dinkas are known as the name JAANG implies.
So stop your lies for Ngundeng shall punish all of you for your wickedness

    • 12 January 2010 12:27, by James

What is wrong with you people (dinka guys)? according to this article, the suspects for murdering of 7 people in Bor were Murle not Nuer. didn’t you read the article? let me tell you one thing my dinka brothers; you can give them ( the Nuer) any bad name you want and involve them in any durty game eventhough not even a single Nuer participated, but this will not solve your problem. they will very soon put your dictatorship rule to an end. Dinka are not enemy to Nuer but their ideology is the best enemy to Nuer.

  • 12 January 2010 13:42, by black-hope

    To Gatwich or food lover
Why do you celeberate the death of your heros Dinkas who liberate your mother and sister from the deadly fuck by Arab
when you were in khartoum feeding on your mother chocolate.
you are enjoying the peace in which defect from.

    • 12 January 2010 17:41, by Kur Kur

Dear God, I call upon you to protect your people from evil doers cause evil has no power over you unless you allow him/ her. God you can change everything, I am asking to touch their hearts and let them act not to kill but to love. May God comfort the victims, give them hope, protect them, guide them, strengthen hearts and fullfill their needs. Amen.

      My friends,
I would like encourage each one of us to change the way we act or react on this web during any situations back home. If we considered yourself as an educated people, then we have to be problems solvers rather than to be problems generators. I am not overstep or disrespect anyone but this is something I have seen and I am not betraying anyone but this is true speak from my heart. Regardless of our tribes, "we need each other like we all need oxygen". So Please, please, let’s try our best to be problems SOLVERS and God bless each of us.
      Peace and Love,
      Kur Kur

This is a childish reporting, bring something more serious, people are tired of the same boring news of cattle rustling, reports which cannot even be independently verified, what is this?

  • 12 January 2010 21:33, by Khent

    Gatwech:

  • 13 January 2010 02:24, by BORAnyidi

I do not get it why so many people of South Sudan are happy about the death of their brothers and sisters insteady of praying for the souls of those who died. I think they do not really know that when one of us died, we would not replace him/her that is what the Arabs wanted at this time of election. I believe these folks are not actually murle, because murles have never used knife to killed anyone since 1970s. they killed you if you a gun and they never killed women like the ways they did it at this time. These guys could be Arab’s militia. they might be from Murle,Nuers Dinkas and other tribes. they are trying to scared people that will go the polls stations to elect their leaders. I hope our government has cognizant of the fact that we have got collaborators that work with NORTHERN GOVERNMENT.
