Salva Kiir formally nominated for presidency in South Sudan

January 15, 2010 (JUBA) – The Political Bureau of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) has announced the incumbent chairman of the party, General Salva Kiir Mayardit, as the candidate for South Sudan presidency.

Earlier, the party nominated Saeed Yasir Arman as its flag bearer to contest against President Omer Hassan Al-Bashir and other opposition parties’ candidates.

Salva Kiir took over the party’s chairmanship after the untimely death of late Dr. John Garang de Mabior in a helicopter crash on 30th July 2005.

He refused to contest for the national presidency position, signaling his interest for the presidential seat in the semi-autonomous Southern Sudan.

The next step is for the SPLM to submit the names of the candidates to the National Elections Commission (NEC) in Khartoum who will finally endorse or reject the candidates based on their qualifications and requirements.

One of the requirements is that an aspirant serving in the army must first resign from the army prior to the NEC approving his or her candidacy.

Kiir is currently an active army General in the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) and heads the recently formed military Command Council, composed of more than 40 senior SPLA officers, and also he is the Commander-in-Chief of the army by his being the President of the Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS).

An official of the semi-autonomous Southern Sudan has ruled out any possibility of General Salva Kiir Mayardit stepping down from the army even if he is nominated as SPLM candidate for presidency.

The minister for Presidential Affairs, Dr. Luka Biong Deng, who is a close aide to Kiir on Wednesday, said Kiir’s candidacy would not need him to step down as commander-in-chief.

Dr. Biong argued that the Interim Constitution of Southern Sudan, 2005, stipulates that the President of the Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS) shall be the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army and if Kiir was nominated for GoSS presidency he would not step down as Commander-in-Chief.

Biong however did not further explain whether Kiir would still wear military uniform with his active rank as General in the army or be stripped of the military uniform and contest like a civilian if nominated.

The Sudan’s national Interim Constitution, 2005, requires aspirant candidates, who serve in the army, civil service and as judges, to first resign from their professions before their candidatures are approved by law and allow them to run for political positions.

The Southern Sudan interim constitution is however silent about what the aspirant candidates for political positions, while actively serving in the army, should comply with during elections.

There was no body available for comment in the government’s legal institution to explain the implications of the Sudan’s national interim constitution and the national elections law over the Southern Sudan interim constitution when dealing with issues of national character such as the elections.

During the GoSS formation in 2005, all the draft constitutions of the ten Southern Sudan states including the Southern Sudan Interim Constitution had to be taken to Khartoum for approval by the national legal body to make sure that they were compatible with the Sudan’s national interim constitution, 2005, pending their final enactment by the respective parliaments in the South.

Questions in the minds of many people that are left to the legal experts to answer include which law (national and Southern Sudan) is supreme over the other when it comes to the national issues such as the elections, or whether the National Elections Act only partially applies to the South and leaves the electoral process of Southern Sudan presidency to the constitution of the South.

It also remains to be clear whether the National Elections Act, 2008, which requires that a candidate first steps down from the army, in order to run for the elections, can equally apply to both national and Southern Sudan candidates at all levels.

Currently, Southern Sudan High Elections Committee based in Juba, which is a branch of the National Elections Commission in Khartoum, also requires that all civil servants, judges and those serving in the army in Southern Sudan and aspire to run for political positions should first resign from their incumbent professional jobs if finally nominated as candidates.

Bashir on Monday stepped down as chief of Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) in compliance with the requirements of the National Elections Law, 2008, and the Interim Constitution of Sudan, 2005.

    Ahahahahaaaaa….This is a joke!

SPLM is not serious about winning elections in both North and South!!!

Yasser Arman and Salva Kiir are currently very unpopular leaders in the SPLM. No body in the South would vote for Yasser Arman, another Jellaba (northerner) who is wanted criminal and joined the SPLM because he killed some body in the north, and is also against the separation of the South from the North. He has no popularity in the North itself.

Well, to be realistic dear Southerners, Salva Kiir will face very and very tough challenges ahead of him. NEC may reject his nomination based on many factors. And even if NEC leaves him alone in this crash nomination, he will not get enough votes in the South to win the election.

Majority of the people of South Sudan are fed up of Kiir’s poor leadership and are not ready for another five years of corruption, tribalism, land grabbing, incompetence, visionless, lack of development, insecurity, etc under the poor tribal leadership of Salvatore Kiir Miyerdit.

Mark my words, folks, Kiir will NEVER be sworn in as the next ELECTED President in the South!

Start calling your uncle because this is turning out just like I predicted. SPLIT before it is too late for you. We have taken the political trophy. Now what remains is your soul.

You and your uncle Salvatore Kiir Miyerdit are just floating over our vision for self-determination. There is no reason to split this time just because of your failed leadership which will leave you ONLY with bad history as it will surely end TOMORROW!

          Ask me how?

            TRAITORS aka nuers,

I will not ask you how because we’re three moves ahead of you. You are in one big-ass chess game that is way too complicated for you. Any move by riek has been calculated and solved before he even thinks of it. So I will not be asking "how" when I have already seen what you have no idea exist.

Did you really think that we will be sleeping with traitors plotting how to ruin a peace we paid high price to achieved? You people must really rethink your entire existence. You are in too deep and can’t swim. God have mercy on your souls.

    • 15 January 2010 07:18, by SPLA

The choice is upto you Naath people. Riek is not running for any office because the SPLM does not believe in him. What are you and your group gonna do now? The Dinka and the SPLM party have outsmarted you brainless Nuer.

      • 15 January 2010 07:47, by Gatwech

SPLA, there are more steps and real challenging steps ahead for Salvatore Kiir Miyerdit. Don’t celebrate yet!!! Salva Kiir may soon resign and withdraw his candidacy... Ahahahahaaaa...

        • 15 January 2010 08:45, by makamthoolditkam

          thank to the APLM/SPLA.
only to a sure you that my dear readers nuer people are people of food only we always waist our time from from since all those years there were nuer in the movement but SPLM/SPLA was wining why do we mind of the do you think with out south will be independent.
i ahve really aperciated the splm move we can,t give this chance to heart weaked person like riek

        • 16 January 2010 00:02, by samuel_kur@yahoo.ca

Gartwech. The black heart God will destroy your idiot ideas. What real challenges steps do you mean? Is it what you did to southerners in 1991?

I don’t think Dr. Reik would listen to your naive ideas, you said yesterday,Dr. John Garang was greedy Leader, if no John Garang Greed you would not wrestling to day for chairmanship, by his greediness he has controlled and kept the movement of collapsing, until he signed the peace deal for you and pass away.

I want to ask you, if there is an other leadership do you mean is better than Kiir leadership or Garang?

The 1991 leaders have tried leadership at their own, but they failed and went back to a greedy leader, but he forgive them and let them enjoy the peace.
Do you think if it is Garang who failed, a 91 leaders could forgive him? I don’t think they wouldn’t forgive him at all. Therefore, God knows people, and he doesn’t give a real greedy one the chance early for he would destroy the people he doesn’t like. For example what happened in warap recently from a greedy militia, I sadly heard some of your greedy person said " it is a good news" simply.

What a good news killing innocence or looting cattle is a good news? Any way I don’t wish those people to revenge for their losse’s lives and properties, i know God will ask them at the end of their days.
I don’t want to open the wounds,i just want reply for empty accusations to our beloved leader John Garang who you said he was Greedy.

I don’t care if you said for Kiir what you want to say, but Dr. John Garang De Mabior Atem Deng Arway. No!

      • 15 January 2010 07:49, by Wiyual

Nuer are not brainless, but peace lovers. You called yourself SPLA which stands for " Sudan People Liberation Army",in that it includes Nuer, Nubians, Blue Nilians, whom fought the war during the 22 yrs of struggle, not Dinka alone.

I don’t encourage division now for simple matter like who is going to lead. Nuer had tried it and corrected the system before, which resulted in massive casualties on both sides, and the whole world cried for Nuer. Now, their commitment from young to older politicians I like to tell you is that, they are for South Independence not for any leadership greed. No matter how things turn in South, Nuer will be the last to leave South Sudan!

        • 15 January 2010 18:07, by chomwalimu

I like your comments. It is time for real talk. South Sudan should not be viewed in the lens of the past mistakes. If we continue to talk trash about each others’ ethnic group, we are gonna lose trust on each other. There is no time for blame game.

        • 15 January 2010 19:49, by funny of Sudan

Hey am Dinka, but your comments has made me so excited, you are a real southern and the man of unity, please keep it up, all these comments of tribalism are not needs at this current situation, even if Riek get the presidency he will not run away with it he will just lead southern including us Dinkas please brothers let try to unite now, this tribalism will do later when we are free from those that we know,

      • 15 January 2010 08:27, by BlackLion

You are damn blind Dinka and seemed you Dinka forgot the cause why we rebelled againts the Jalaba. But people of South Sudan can now know you better then ever that your problem is Nuer not Jalaba. My friend; your dead Garang if he had some chance to be resurrected could warn you to love South Sudan more than that of Dinka self interest such that you can live longer.Your dead uncles Domonic and Justin Yach could tell you better that love Nuer and Equatorian if you want to live longer. Now you are telling Nuer that the choice is their; what if declared a coup against your dead walking uncle Salva Kiir, how will you stop it since you are now violating the CPA at the eye of international community. Anyhow, the son of the soil Dr. Riek Machar Teny Zurgon will stay patient and the God of the land will do the work Himself. Just wait for only 5 months!!!!!!!!!!

        South Sudan Oyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!

    • 15 January 2010 07:25, by Mr Famous Big_Logic_Boy

Mr Biong your playing worse tribalsim ever in South, I have been taking every single word from your lips and lastly I come to clude that you are doing tribal favour to Kiir. Why don’t you focus on your duty rather than sticking your daily enegy behind Kiir? It seem like there is more than what you have given in the article. Yesterday you reserve uncertain position for Kiir, and today you come up with clear indication of what you have planed. My friend lete pull South out of this bad image. Security is the top goal that wil bring us together for unity. Imagine the frequenct killing in South, will this really be our very best destination of long struggle? the answer is NO.

Insecurity, tribalism and corruption are the highest threat to the unity in South. This is why I have been arguing the people of South Sudan to stay far from this spirit, we should accept anyone to lead not only Kiir who has ruin the image of GOSS. I even admit Yasir contestant on behalf of Southerns, not because of his arab background. But he has been with SPLA for his entire life and I beleive that he could be the right person to introduce a better system of govering GOSS. South sudan become a home of insecurity, corruption and tribalism under the retard of individuals. Why can’t we start to run fair system of government in South Sudan? ladies and gentlement, young Southerns and mature. South Sudan future is in your hands, supporting the game of Mr Biong does not reflect anyone’s imagination. Kiir has his opportunity for himself not being well constructed like what We can see. He himself will have to struggle like evryone else.

New Year Message continuous to inspire

Time for tribalism has gone, 2010 is not a time to generalise tribe or community instead of one person. It is time to focus on the real issue far from tribal criticism, political party criticism, leaders criticism, and very far from abuses or insults. We should also debate far from abuses of any single commenter on ST forum, to myself I want to be a man of tolerance, peace, responsbility, respect, forgiveness, love, unity and courage . It is time to get serious and work for the betterment of my nation South Sudan (Democratic Republic of Victoria), South Sudan should be call Victoria, because the long struggle is victory, CPA is victory, South Sudan liberation is victory, our insecurity will be a victory, election and referrendom are potential victories.

I didn’t change myself because of pressure or whatsoever, it could be my 2010 resolution. For now lets start new year with fresh mind and positive ideas that will improvement the managment of South Sudan, childish comments must be ignored. Some individual comment aggressively when they are defeated in debate, this spirit must be abandon. We are here to play a game ie you get defeated or you defeat others defends on the article and the extend of your debate, but don’t insult people. This is my new year message to ST viewers, contributors, pseuds, readers and editor.

Many thanks Logic! Truly speaking, your today’s writing interests me alot cus it’s far more rational than those of the past. It sends some positive gesture to me and the likes and I hence term it as a turning point to logically focus on what unite us but not what divide us because the country’s future requires unity characterised by love and all that u mentioned.

Furthermore, it would sound more democratic if Kiir complies with terms and conditions of the 2008 National Act. Not just it’s democratic to firstly resign from his professional job to qualify for civil post contest but it would give a ground to convince his critical voters that he’s a true civilian ready to serve civilly and democratically.

    • 15 January 2010 07:25, by samuel_kur@yahoo.ca

      Brother Garwech.

I always thing you have good knowledge in language, but don’t fool yourself with your limited tribalism for tribalism support as you seems in at your language along of your comments. I said before some people are igniting the flame in south, such as you, Kim Deng, Dinka Dominated SPLA, Theiling, and Ramang Deng, you guys are under the south telescope,as i can tell you the could burn every one even the one who did it, i this tribalism would not help all of you in future, I knew your background with Rambang well, which means you are tribalism people who will not run for position in south in future.

I know the reason you hate Salva Kiir is not because he is failed leader, because you are tribalism and that will not help your future, nobody mind if Dr, Reik Machar Could come to the same seat of presidency in future, but its use in a politic way not like you do. Yes Reik Machar could come a president in south one day if people are patient, every one has his own chance and time its given by his creator, so when the chance and time of Dr. Reik comes, he will be our leader nobody would argue for that, because he is successful leader and considerable intellectual, but now we want thing to be smooth not as rough as you do guys even you will endanger Dr. Reik Machar politic, some people may think Dr Reik knows what you are doing for his political card.

Please, we should leave Dr. Riek alone with evolving in your debate as its happens always. Even Dr. Reik Doesn’t like the way people are mentioning his name in dirt politic, due for politic reason as he is international, he doesn’t like to be understood as a tribalism leader. Please, Change your topic in future comments.

We should not work to split our nations into many divisions in this time, we should be patient until our time is up at specific chance.

I urge you to eliminate tribalism ideas, and be open minded person who accepted everything based on good spirit not on bad spirit as you seems.

I don’t have any point of view toward commander Yassir Arman to be an SPLM nominee for presidency seat, even i was thinking for the seats in the south government to be given for them, to make them feel as we are welcomed people, even if they joint the south in future they could not face any differences, and that how the world intellectualism work.

      • 15 January 2010 07:55, by Gatwech

What about your Dinka tribalists on this website. You have only named Nuer which shows that you are also a tribalist.

My friend, there is already patience. No body is rushing even Dr. Riek has been doing the best job in GOSS for the last five years. He did not overthrow Salva Kiir.

Garang was greedy for power despite people rejecting him. But did he last long?

So, no body is rushing after greedy incompetent leaders. They will end their power through their bad deeds...

        • 15 January 2010 09:11, by samuel_kur@yahoo.ca

Don’t portend as you are patient, don’t you know what a damage you did to Dr. Reik?

Recently, people were writing of new forming party by Dr. Reik, and that not because its true, its because people read your comments, as they translated into real.

As i would like to tell you also, that i might be one of supporters of Dr. Reik, and i don’t want it to be the topic every day, we should leave it to a vote day. But you are tribalism lover, and remember the day my politic has been different of your politic, i was supporting your comments, but you have disappointed me when i knew you are since person, as i knew i share one province with you.

    • 15 January 2010 07:25, by Kur William

please Gatwech leave sudanese alone to decide their fate who they think will be their leader base on their current situation they are in right now.If you are not happy with Yasir Arman or Salva Kirr then don,t cast your vote in box.

    • 15 January 2010 07:31, by thieleling

SPLM leaders do not understand laws. The deathly childish and foolish decision they made to nominate two candidates(Kiir & Arman) who lack both popularity & electability indicates inferior leadership decision-making process within SPLM. Kiir & his SPLM leadership NEVER make any intelligent, effective decision.
With that, the CPA becomes Addis Ababa II.

It is also obvous the party does not have a competitve legal lawyers who can advise the leaders on the constitutionality of some of their decisions. There will be a "tit for tat" between the National Election Commision and the party SPLM. Kiir would be denied right to be a leader constitutionally before he even face the electorates through ballots in south sudan. Therefore, SPLM has to blame itself for violating the constitutions, and thus CPA.

      • 15 January 2010 22:13, by BBCs

what are you ,a lawyer, perdictig your mind about popularity,do you think now you are free from war? let me tell you my friends, it is a coverup bashir don,t step down , it is arab trict they been playing many years.however, this election is another war.forget about popularity leaders but think about they leaders who fight for this war since and never giveup and rebel aganist their people even thought they did disagree from some issue.

    • 15 January 2010 10:15, by Tony Komayiit

Ooh no! i am now running out of your fucken CPA which give a cockroaches a chance to rule south but enough is enough, either kiir or yasir will face the test of AK-47 for the seek of south,we don,t want traitor like yasir who is a son of Arabs and he have plan B!
      shame on you.

    • 15 January 2010 12:23, by Mel mosa

Hey Gatwech, you forget to mention one thing, who do you think is qualify to win the election? or do you mean to leave the position of Southern Sudan or Sudan presidency without someone? Your sugguestion is very important.

    • 15 January 2010 20:25, by peter gatdet

      Gatwec jin doohr.

Please if Salva Kiir and Yasir Arman are not popular leaders in the splm then let your mother-fucfen Dr Riek and yr mother apply for preisdency.

u talks of NEC but don’t u know them ,they are not from foolish Nuer, they are people knowing what Dr Garang and Kiir were struggling for.

    • 16 January 2010 06:02, by John chol Garang

      Damn Gatwech!

Did General Kiir or Yasser Arman engage in any genocidal politics during the liberation Struggle?

Your claim of unpopularity of these true patriotic members does not reflect appropriate level of consciousness.

    • 16 January 2010 10:17, by Wiyual Wech Puk D. Payol.

who is yasir? what does the name Yasir means? who is he to represent the people of south sudan for the whole sudan presidential compaign? he is an arab origin by birth.what if Salva Kiir fear the election competition of Bashir because he is no man of qualification enough for presidentship why not Dr Riek should compete for that post because of his being capable in all ways instead of giving the chance to that arab man.

  • 15 January 2010 07:06, by Trueman

Dinka is the oxygen of the South!
Kiir’s nomination shows that we the Dinka hold the key to anyone’s future aspiration.
Like it or hate it still you remain glued to Dinka.

    • 15 January 2010 07:15, by Gatbentiu

      Trueman Your wrong dear,

I think you wrote this comment while drunk,if not you must have hangover from your previous day.

Let’s wait and see whether Arman Nomination will come true or not.
If Kiir is fearing to contest in the national level, let him give DR Riek a chance to try his luck.

      • 15 January 2010 07:23, by Dinka Boy

        Mr Gatbentiu,

it means that you don,t follow the news.
Riek was nominated before to go and contest with Omar Bashier, but he refuse saying that he want to be hand the presidency of Southern Sudan.
What do you want again? Now SPLM niminate Yasir Arman because he is loyal to SPLM and he did not refuse the contest.
See how greedy Naath in general are.
That is why i call you born empty and will die empty.
No more cry. you miss your chance dear.
now blame your greediness about power not SPLM.

      • 15 January 2010 07:34, by Mike Mike

What is wrong with this little boy called gatwech? My dear is it you need the SPLA army to be left like that without somebody who is incharge with or what is your suggestion? I think SPLM leadership is not foolish to hand over the army to uncomfirmed person to take charge of even your uncle Riek or that iliterate called Paulino Matip cannot be given chance to take charge of the South Sudan military. We don’t want the confusion like the one of 1990s to happen again in the South.

        • 15 January 2010 08:09, by Gatwech

          Dinka Boy,

You called Gen. Paulino Matip illiterate? Well, he knows how to fight more than Kiir and that is what the army needs.

But Kiir’s nomination will be rejected by NEC and one of the factors will be his being semi-illiterate. He doesn’t have a university degree even a diploma.

The 100,000 dollars worth honorary doctorate which he bought in Kenya will not rescue the situation. And of course you don’t get PhD first outside of university and before you get Bachelors and Masters.

Kiir has a long list of disqualifications waiting for him at the NEC in Khartoum and at the Sudan Constitutional Court.

I believe he will resign and withdraw from his candidacy soon, or he will risk being labelled as anti-democracy and violator of constitutions and laws if he refuses to comply. This will soon bring him face to face with the international community.

I wish he listened to the advice given to him by the Americans. He is putting himself in a dramatic situation.

          • 15 January 2010 22:35, by BBCs

who are you,a son of intermarried by arab and nuer traitors.
your illterate matip never fight with real army, its only attack civilains and that is they different.now tell me whom did your traitors matip fighting for? Nuer independent? nomatter what you cow think, president Kiir will stil rule you and is stil going to be the candiant for the south sudan position for president. there is no what you cal NEC decision in Khartoum, those are sharia laws. south sudan is not rule by those sharia laws.there is not law in the world that require the actve president to step down if he is willing to run for relections.

    • 15 January 2010 07:17, by Dinka Boy

      Great Job!
This will be an example that people will learn the importancy of your citizens are.
if you respect your party or people then you will be the leader but if you are their killer/enemy then they will not respect you. Riek Machar is like rat in the South and nobody like him. He must choice defect or loyalty in SPLM party.

I am very glad today that our hero Salva Kiir Mayardiit still maintain our party"SPLM". dear brothers we die fighting for the south while nuer were with Arab and now we can not afford mother fuckers Nyagatism anymore in the South.
Naath must understand that Salva Kiir is the most danger ever than Dr Garang de Mabior. Warning on Nuer!

        Dinka Boy,

Your words are just trashes. You need to be specific. Go back and study your words if you really meant what you just say.

You are the destructive human to South Sudanese in general, not just Nuer and Dinka. Dear Gatwech,

I love that optimism and line of your argument man!

But brother Gatwech, I couldn’t believe it that the SPLM could go for Kiir with all the glaring mistakes under his watch; I thought the leadership of the SPLM should been conscious of what people are saying on the street and allow the poor leader to leave power peacefully.

Its a sad day for Southern Sudan indeed! Oh where will our help come from oh God!

I pray that NEC will stop this fool from going another more years.

Gatwech, the SPLM as we know wasn’t serious about changing Sudan; there have been just hot air on New Sudan blah which we can now confirm as meant to misled others.

Who will believe these people anymore?

      • 15 January 2010 19:29, by Gatwech

You are right. The so-called SPLM political bureau is just composed of fools and selfish party officials who do not know what they want for this young nation.

But, I doubt that Salva Kiir’s candidacy or election will EVER go through.

    • 16 January 2010 00:29, by Chol Mading

      Trueman, SPLA, Murlescrewed, and all,

You guys are doing harm to Dinkas. Your shallow thinking is an indication of ignorance. I am advising you as fellow Dinka. We need Nuers, Equatorian, and all southerners to win election and even to exist. This attitude will not grant us any thing but hatred and if all these tribes united against us it will spells disaster and may bring complications in South. I advice you to refrain from such attitude and represent your selves.

Kiir has many hurdles ahead of him. Even with in Dinka community people have very low opinion about his recent actions and the way forward. Things could even change for worse, let’s not celebrate yet.

      Dear all,

For those of you who like Dr.Riek Machar to be nominate for presidency; i am against ya, because this person has committed a huge crime in 1991, Thousands and thousands people die because of him. noway we can elect him as president of southern Sudan. he is not suppose to be in that position he having it right now as vice-president. He can have any position in southern Sudan government because he came back and asked forgiveness; and we did forgive him, but people of southern Sudan couldn’t allow him to be president of southern Sudan because nobody still not truested him. The Nuer rebel killing people right now in southern Sudan whose know Dr.Riek Machar still apart of it because if he not, why don’t he stop his people to stop killing people and looming other cows. southern Sudan government need wash this person very carfully because in the future this person can the worst thing than what he did in 1991. southern sudan need a good leader to govern it well.

Koul Manyang is not right person be nominated for presidency either, because he is killer.

right choice to nominated Salva Kiir for the presidency because he is the right person to lead people of southern Sudan.

Salva Kiir Oyee, SPLM Oyee, SPLA Oyee, South Sudan Oyee.

I am very very very very very very pleased to hear that Salva Kiir Mayardit has been nominated by the SPLM PB to run against any one in the South for the April coming election.Kiir must to win otherwise.

20% from Nuer land are not enough to let him fail the election.
        God bless him.

        • 15 January 2010 08:12, by Nyiker

I dont think that you will wine the election Mr. Kiir against Dr. Lam Akol the coming president of Southern Sudan because he is the will of people of Southern Sudan.

      • 15 January 2010 08:02, by Wiyual

This is just a party nomination, not a public voting. Yes, Mr. Kiir is a right person to lead us but, his supporters are turning people away behind him. People like Murlescrewed, Dinka Boy, and the so called SPLA thought that this is a Kingship dynasty. But we have more work to do as we are aiming for South Sudan Independence. We did not go to war for leadership!

  • 15 January 2010 08:14, by Gatwech

    Dear readers,

Incompetent Salvatore Kiir Miyerdit has a long list of disqualification.

Well, Dinka Boy and the likes you called Gen. Paulino Matip illiterate? Gosh, he knows how to fight more than Kiir and that is what the army needs.

But Kiir’s nomination will be rejected by NEC and one of the factors will be his being semi-illiterate. He doesn’t have a university degree even a diploma. And the law wants some body with a diploma, atleast!

The next few days and weeks will be, well...

  • 15 January 2010 08:17, by Fantastic Tombeki

What a miscalculation by the Goss government to nominate Kiir as candidate for southern Sudan presidency. What I know is that he will have to relinguish his position in the army like what Bashir did because, albeit the south sudan interim constitution did not specify clearly about that, the sudan interim constitution is supreme and is the law of the land that over-rule the interim constitution of southern sudan. Albeit the SPLM political beuareau had nominated him to run for autonomous south sudan presidency, his candidacy will be rejected by the National Electoral Commission. Even the south sudan National Election Commission, which is a branch of the Sudan National Election Commission, puts the requirements as follows: that anyone wanting to contest for any position will have to relinguish hsi/her position being it in the army, judiciary, etc. To this clear fact, Slava Kiir will have to abide by the rules of the game.

    • 15 January 2010 09:10, by braveheart

      Gatwec and others,

You guys need to forget about Dr Riek for now. Decision have been made already. The next question all of you should be concerned about is rather who is competent enough to lead GOSS and southerners all the way to this coming referendum? Is it Lam Akol or Salva Kiir?

No more Riek for now, guys, it is either Lam or Kiir??

      • 15 January 2010 10:18, by Shadrack Nuer Machut

Why are people shouting at Kiir,s nomination and they don,t see their own problems in their underwear? S. Sudan has to be first tested by those whose sons, daughters, uncles were killed in the struggle for independence to mention the few. This could have not be the time for democratic elections in Sudan if Dr. Riak Machar did not rebel. It could have been the time for changing militry government for demcratic system. You better avoid insulting Kiir for no good reasons despite the fact that he took courage to remain on the tract for independence. This is why and I think, it is the reason Yasir Arman is nominated to contest against Bashir because SPLM needs the full independence from North. SPLM can not serve two masters at ago. Let,s concentrate on Separation and those who need many jobs will get them as well. There are many positions in a democratic country therefore everyone of us shall something to administer. It is not only
presidency which is a job. Wash it out of your mind. I am tired of barbaric talks destroying good relationships and better democracy.

        Shadrack Nuer Machut.

  • 15 January 2010 10:46, by Peter Rhiak Daniel

Kiir’s nomination for presidency in the South is a wise decision from the political Bureau but have the body read the constitution of the Republic about elections.

The Bureau should think twice in order not to hurt CPA implementation but safe guard its implementation. The elections to be conducted aren’t for Southern Sudan alone hence there is need to comprehend properly so that NCP doesn’t get a loop hole to create excuses or blame Southerners for failure to fully implement CPA. Bashir has set his trap by resigning from the army.

If the Political Bureau feels that Kiir is the best General then think again.

      • 15 January 2010 22:06, by Peter Rhiak Daniel

Kiir is not the only sole GoSS but he’s being guided by almost reps of all the Southern tribes. If GoSS is perceived to be corrupt then it doesn’t mean that Kiir is promoting corruption. Politicians in the South are the ones contributing to the corruption. They rally against Kiir hence making it difficult for Kiir to fight corruption.

Kiir should be given humble time to tackle issues pertaining the North and South after which all those who felt marginalized by the current GoSS can vote for whoever they wish.

Being particular with one tribe is sometime showing how foolish the person is. Be considerate in your writing. Compatriots are always mindful of their country’s future despite the odds.

Kiir must complete the journey to the promised land and he will handover the power to those who are greedily thinking that being the president is the only way to record history.

Kiir endorsement of Arman is a signal to the North that southerners don’t care wether they (northerners)stick to power or not, the referendum will let the southerners to be free forever from Arab domination.

Long live SPLM/SPLA, Long live Kiir.

  • 15 January 2010 13:27, by James Okuk Solomon

In truth we trust and nothing else we should hold with utmost honour but the truth. Article 111(1) of the Interim Constitution of Southern Sudan (2005) states it clearly that the President of the Government of Southern Sudan shall only be the C-in-C of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army "prior to the elections that shall be held during the interim period." This Constitution does not say the person who contests for the presidential seat of the GoSS should be the C-in-C of the SPLA during the elections period. The core terms of reference in the constitutional interpretation we are arguing about here are: "Prior" and "During".

It is clear in the mentioned article 111 (1) that the SPLM Chairman, SPLA C-in-C and the United Sudan FVP is categorically not allowed to be in military uniform during the elections process if he chose to run for any top seat at any level of Government in the South.

Now that Kiir has been nominated officially by the Politburo of his SPLM to contest for GoSS Presidency in April 2010 elctions, the ball of the elections game is thrown into his side either to respect the NEC regulations or become a constitutional delinquent by defiance. If he chooses to go by the negative side of military dictatorship that has nothng to do with civilian democracy, he should better get reminded that Hon. Judge Abel Alier is a silent killer when to comes to law enforcement.

No joke; even the Abyei brother-in-law, Yasser Arman may get disqualified because there are criminal legal cases against him pending in the court in Khartoum regarding murder and insult to Khartoum State Police.

God bless South Sudan and the Defenders of Its Constitutional Democracy in practice rather than in paper.

Salva Kiir has been crying that Bashir goes aginst laws and constitution. Do you see him now nominated for presidency while he is the army commandeer in chief. Does he not know or read the NEC criterias.

Please know that we are not against kiir but his poor leadership.

You people oppose Yasser arman, you also oppose Salava Kirr, so who do you want? do you think nomination is a personalized issue were every citizens wants his or her favourite candidate? this is a collective issues involving the whole nationa not those who make empty noises on websites, If you are not satisfied with this two candidates then nominate yourself and lets see if you will get a single vote.

  • 15 January 2010 17:23, by Time1

South Sudan needs Kirr to continue untill after the referendum ,to deliever the promise of the struggle for freedom and independence, Kirr will only leave after south sudan is free from Arab oppression and domination of Africans in Sudan.

  • 15 January 2010 22:19, by Mustafa

To those who are rooting for separating the south from the north, I would say this is not the right solution. This is what the enemy is looking for; we need to be more united than separated. And I think to have election on that is wrong, and even if it’s okay to vote, I feel that every citizen in Sudan has the right to vote on that not only the south. What kind of equal rights is that? . People from the north have the same rights in the south and vise versa. If you look around or check the history you will find that most powerful nations are the united ones (e.g. USA, USSR, proposed European Union, etc.). I am from Odurman, and I realize that there are many ignorant people in Sudan and other countries who promote discrimination. Africa as a whole have pride in tribes (each tribe thinks they are better than others). Even in South Sudan Dinka Vs. Nuir etc. So we need to educate our new generations to adopt unity and equal rights for all (sound like a dream) but that is the only way out. This is not a religion issue, as all religions don’t promote discrimination. It is the people who make those mistakes. A real example is Dar Fur (Muslims against Muslims), so it is all about tribal war and pride. I can grantee you one thing, if South Sudan separate from the north it will no be peaceful county (many tribal war). So please leave race and religion alone, I am a Muslim, Islam teach me to treat people equal, the word Islam itself means Peace (Salam) and total submission to God. Profit Mohamed (peace be upon him), came to teach us how to follow the right teachings of all the great profits of God who came with the same message (e.g. Isa / Jesus, Mousa, etc.) peace be upon them all. As matter of fact if you read the Quran, you will find that Jesus peace be upon him was mentioned more than any other profit including profit Mohamed himself. So I invite all of you to seek the truth and read about Islam just for your knowledge. I am not trying to convince you here as we as Muslims we believe only God can do that. Our duty is to just ask you to seek knowledge. By the way Islam is not only for Arabs. As matter of fact Arabs are only 15% of total Muslims today. Islam also is the most growing religion because by becoming Muslim you will follow the correct teaching of Jusus peace be upon him, who by the way was born in the middle east and spoke Aramic, which is the sister language of Arabic not English. Some Europeans stole the true bible and changed it over the time, that’s why you see many versions of it.

Sorry I did not mean to turn this to religion debate, but thought to share my views with you. After all we all humans came from the same origin, so let us leave all the tribal prides and leave in peace. It may take time but if we stick to it, it will happen one day. May be not this generation but the next one.

        Mr. Dinka Dominated SPLA/Thieling/Gatwech!
Dinka and Nuer, why would it be the topic of your choice? I conclude that you don’t have topic to discuss with majority of the Sudanese. Rather being possess with simply identifiable illiteracy and basic social education. What about talking about Great Equatoria? What about Blue Nile? What about disable? What about kids whose parents died during the war? What about HIV? What about laws of Southern Sudan? What about education and sanitation? What about influx of immigrants into Juba and other places where jobs are scatters?
        Riek v Kiir?
There are no differences between Kiir and Riek Machar. The post of Presidency you little boys complaining is intertwined. Just because Kiir is sitting higher or closed in the theatre does not mean that he will absorbs and remembers every performance. This is self-evidence, and you all aware recently, that Riek was involves in the ABYEI PCA ruling and he achieved it. And other similar issues he participate in them and got results.
        DINKA v NUER:
Your poor educations and illiterateness about our cultures is defects in you. Inciting hatred is a crime of passions and I bow to any reader to identify those names associated with hate crimes. Your criminality will someday receive its prices. Plainly, your peers will accept the evidence of these complains I made to you as to count that I was entitled to do so. It is equally plain that your peers should reject you and exposed your real names. You are causing crimes in the nation and you idiot will never spill blood of your own. Can’t you see that? You are misleading people and in particular the children into hate crimes and what is good about it when the nation became failed? What do you get out death? Riek or Kiir is not equivalent to thousands death. Kiir and Riek’s life have nothing to do with innocent citizen you are inciting into cultural-social-ethnic-tribes-hate crime. They just don’t give a damn about you.
In my opinion, those who incited hate crime should be convicted under the following terms:
If two or more persons reach any understanding or arrangement that together they will commit a crime and then, while that understanding or arrangement is still on foot and has not been called off, they are both present at the scene of the crime and one or other of them does, or they do between them, in accordance with their understanding or arrangement, all the things that are necessary to constitute the crime, they are all equally guilty of that crime regardless of what part each played in the commission. In such cases they are said to have been acting in concert in committing the crime.
South Sudan laws must be moulded to catch those criminals. It is irrelevant that the actual perpetrator cannot be convicted of that crime because he or she has no defence such as lack (men’s rea) intention, self-defence, provocation, duress or insanity.

that is a fine and nobel statement,,but for the america to come to grips with true freedom for its people these white folks had what we call a civil war in the late 1800s,,the black man did not get true rights until almost 100yrs later,,south sudan has fought the oppressive war already,,the only thing south sudan has that the blacks in america did not have is land,,a foundation,,,you arabs are not all bad but the ones that are in africa namely egypt, sudan and the muslims in northwest africa are some of the most racist people on the planet now taken the place of the whiteman,,,the truth of the matter is you are only noble when you are outnumbered,,,this is a black family agenda,,,

  • 16 January 2010 04:51, by AUGUSTINO DENG

Southern Sudan is really in turmoil with the fact that there is no person to "dethrone" Omar Bashir from Power. By the way, where is the guy whom people always shout that he is Joshua? It is true that Salva Kiir Miyardit is defending his position and that is why he is nominiated as a president of Southern Sudan. To me, I don’t expected Salva Kiir Miyardit to be a president of Southern Sudan but a president of the whole Sudan.

Now, if Saeed Yasir Arman is nominated to contest against Omar Bashir, will Saeed Yasir Arman be a president of Sudan if he win the Election and Mr Salva Kiir be a president of Southern Sudan at the same time? Why Salva Kiir Miyardit blind fooled himself by saying that " SPLA/SPLM is like a car without a gear"?. Shame on him!!. I thought that Salva Kiir will deeply liberate his own peopole out from the hand of Arabs in Khartoum, but now Salva Kiir Miyardit’s vision become a hopeless to the Southern Sudanese Communities.

When should a person from Southern Sudan rule Sudan as a president? Shame on Salva Kiir!!. I vehemently believe a saying said that "if you are a poor person from the very beginning and later on become rich, you don’t have a tendency of recalling back the past situations. Now, that is what happening from Salva Kiir. He think that everybody in Southern Sudan is enjoying easy life as he do. When Southern Sudanese people nominated Salva Kiir Miyardit on Thursday 8/11/2005, it doesn’t mean that the Southern Sudanese people select Salva Kiir Miyardit for the position, but for the seek to stand and manicipated the Southern Sudanese people from ravages.

Today, Salva Kiir Miyardit, tend the Chair as his own wealthy. If not like that, then why he refused to contest against Omar Bashir? Because, he know that since his political view is weak, he could not make it to run as a president of Sudan. So, that is why he nominated Saeed Yasir Arman to contest against Omar Bashir. It is a stupid idea to make it in that way. If Salva Kiir Miyardit expected Saeed Yasir Arman to run for presidency, then Salva Kiir himself has to resign from the position of being as a Vice President and a President of Southern Sudan and give that position to Saeed Yasir Arman. It is a big shame to our leader Salva Kiir Miyardit to show a kind of fear in front of the enemies. Shame on Salva Kiir!!. Matter of position only can not let me go to the Northern Sudan and kneeled myself to Arabs. Shame on Salva Kiir Miyardit.

    • 16 January 2010 05:12, by Dinka Boy

      Agustino Deng,

Yeah Salva Kiir Mayardit is the one that can take Southerners to independent South. Yasir Arman must contest with Omar Basier and if he win then his win is for South Sudan. If you think that we will be independent country in 2011 then why crying like dog in the thick forest for Salva Kiir to contest Bashir. Yes. We SPLM do not want Salva Kiir to leave SPLM because we have untrusted people like Riek Machar who can play around for our fruitful South as we already knows that he is atraitor and Nyagat who always prostitute with Jallaba.

Please stop crying, 2010 is not our aim. Who cares if Bashier win the that is not our problem.
I know what is in our primitive mind. You want Riek Machar to remain with the South Presidency, but it is like pushing Mountain Evest in your thumb.
Your Rieck will be your Nuer militia or commission in Nuer land.

  • 16 January 2010 05:02, by choldit

I don’t knw on what base the SPLM will operate as a major party if we can’t observe the our constitution and apply it. Awani Igga should knw that he is a man like Kirr and Garang who using/used him to do their dirty business of sidelining Dr. Riek. Dr.Riek is currently (by deed) and before by (ambition)is the one who give us CPA is what keeps it alive now. Dr. Riek is the one who cool down the community of sidelined Nuer from GOSS from questioning why the money of the petrol that come from their land (Nuerland) is being loot by Dinka and their puppet Wani Igga.

It is clear from any human in the South that Kirr cannot pss the criteria because he is illetrate just like his dead Mother or she may be better. Constitutionally Kirr cannot be selected for Presidency but Wani has no way of saying it because he was put on that committee as a tool just like Lok Joak is but the real key players are Awut and other Dinka fools who have no consideration for what may happen if the consitution is violated, if the Nuer and other South Sudanese tribes are sidelined.

If this sidelining is done by Azandi who was fighting Colonial forces in 1800s in Equatoria and Nuer from central and East of South Sudan every one may think they are not food lovers. But Colonial forces were based in Bar Al Gazel and Bor when they were fifhgting Nuer and Azandi. Not to mention Dinka sided with Colonial forces and Arab during Guak Ngundeng lebration for South Sudan.

It is a culture for the Dinka to do their greed deeds at the time when South Sudanese are in critical time. They know Dr. Riek will work hard to convence the Nuer to keep quite though the Dinka are looting public property in the South just because the International Community will not see us to be a fail state if we going to be a nation next year.

But is it good to have just move from Jalaba master to another belind, greedy, illetrate master Dinka? For what purpose. This time Dr. Riek must either be with us or against to solve this Dinka stupidity.

I can’t count on Abel Alier’s ability to apply the Interm consitution of the Sudan by stopping this illetrate man call Salva Kirr to compete for the Presidency of the South because he is a Dinka after all.

If at all the South need the peace, it should vote for another private candidate or other party so that we the SPLM should see how fool we are.

This mistake can be blame on Wani Igga and John Lok for they allow themselves used by Dinka against the South Sudan. What can we support Kirr for? the current government is 90% own by Dinka e.g. all vital positions are given to Dinkas. 99.999% looters of the public money are from Dinka. Couldn’t it be a civilise way to stop Dinka from thier greedy behaviour.

Biong, was not blamed for his childish performance in Abyie court case, maladminstration in his daily roles in Goss. Dr. Riek covered him by wining the case. South Sudanese are not even blaming Dinka Abyie for selling themselves to Arab in 1905, shame to this greedy slave people. Now they try to cover their childish behavior by blaming Nuer from all thier bad deed.

God will not safe them this time!

      Or killed yourself.

        Kiir’s bodyguards

Please, time is running. Tell your King(Kiir) about what is behind the April Election. You have to repair his airplane not to go like his King(Dictator Garang) if he has one.

We don’t want to loose him in South but on his way to other countries(Khartoum Government, Uganda, Kenya, ......).

Long Live SEPARATISTS because South needs you and death UNIONISTS
