Sudan FM affirms government keenness to achieve peace

KHARTOUM, April 22, 2004 (SUNA) — Foreign Minister Dr. Mustafa Osman Ismail said that the report of US President, George W. Bush, to the Congress on Sudan Peace Act could not say Sudan government was not cooperative and dealing seriously in the peace issue, because the international community and the public opinion have certified on Sudan government’s much seriousness and keenness to achieve a lasting and comprehensive peace.

In a press statement Thursday, Dr. Ismail said that the report of President Bush has criticized the situation in Darfur with a view to please the activist organizations.

He stressed that Sudan government stance toward Darfur issue is based on the serious work to restore stability in the area and to solve Darfur issue peacefully.

The minister indicated that the report affirmed that the two parties are negotiating seriously despite the slowness in this regard.

Dr. Ismail said that Sudan government is also uneasy about the slowness of the negotiation in Naivasha, Kenya.

The Foreign Minister pointed out that the attack concerning Darfur issue was unjustifiable, because they are aware about the government’s seriousness and keenness to solve this problem peacefully and also to achieve a just and lasting peace in Sudan through the ongoing negotiations at Naivasha.

Dr. Ismail reiterated the government seriousness and persistence to reach final solution for all problems, stressing that Sudan government will work together with all those who are keen to solve the issues of Darfur toward normalization of the situation in Darfur.

The minister said that he spoke over the telephonel Thursday with the Secretary General of the Arab League, Amru Musa, and acquainted him with the situation in Darfur.

He added that Musa would send an Arab League’s delegation to get informed with the conditions in Darfur.
